  • Lady Eagles pick up road win at Myrtle

    West Union fought off a tough Lady Hawk squad on Tuesday, picking up a 48-34 win on the road.
    The Lady Eagles went ahead 11-5 early in the game on a 7-0 run, with four points from Gracen Conlee. Meshay Cox gave Myrtle its first lead at 13-12.
    Myrtle led at the half, 16-14, and the two teams traded the lead throughout the third quarter before Marley Long gave West Union its final lead.

  • West Union bowling takes on East Webster

    West Union bowling competed against West Webster on Monday with the outcome yet to be determined.

  • Baldwyn takes two over East Union

    East Union opened division play last Friday, suffering two tough home losses to Baldwyn.
    Ayana Ragin scored 27 points, 21 in the first half, leading the Lady Bearcats to a 67-29 win over the Lady Urchins.
    With the game tied at four early on, Baldwyn went on an 11-0 run to lead 15-4. The Lady Bearcats had another big run in the second quarter, opening with the first nine points scored to lead 24-5.
    Ashley Leach scored 10 points to lead the Lady Urchins at the break, and East Union went 8-for-13 from the free throw line, making it  36-16 at the half.

  • West Union picks up wins at North Pontotoc tournament

    West Union girls picked up three wins in four games last week despite several injuries on the team.

  • Ingomar takes weekend wins over Myrtle

    Despite several miscues early in the game, the Lady Falcons picked up a win over county rival Myrtle, 56-31, last Friday.

    “We need to make better decisions,” Ingomar coach Trent Adair said. “We have seniors, who sometimes make youthful mistakes, and we have to get out of that. I don’t think we made a lot of good decisions in this game.”

  • MHSAA announces reclassification for area schools

    The Mississippi High School Activities Association released its reclassification grid for the next two school years, and the new list includes a division for East Union football.

    After playing as an independent in 2012, the Urchins will join Region 1-2A for football, which is the division it plays in for other sports. East Union is in this division with Baldwyn, Hatley, Mantachie, New Site and Walnut. Urchins head coach Scott Duley said his program is excited to make the next step in building a football tradition at East Union.

  • Lions outlast Hawks

    Robert Montgomery drained a three-pointer for the Hawks in the closing seconds of Monday’s game against Biggersville, but the Hawks fell short, 88-86, at home.

    It’s a new and improved Meshay Cox that the Lady Hawks have on the court this season. Once a part of a loaded Myrtle squad, the senior now finds herself stepping into new roles, and she’s taken the challenge head on.

  • Player of the Week: Henry Foster

    Described as the Falcons leader who makes the difficult shots for his team, Henry Foster’s performances versus East Union and North Pontotoc last week earn him Player of the Week honors.

  • New Albany earns road sweep at Ingomar

    It wasn’t pretty, but the Bulldogs found a way to win. Down by double digits on the road at Ingomar, New Albany worked its way back in for the 68-64 overtime win over the Falcons on Monday.
