  • East Union, Ingomar fall at Robertson's tournament

    Ingomar was close to making a big comeback against Alcorn Central, but the Lady Falcons dropped the 55-41 decision in the second game of the 16th annual Robertson’s Sportswear Lady Challenge at North Pontotoc on Saturday.

    Down by 15 at the break, Mallory Adair led the Lady Falcons with seven points in the third quarter, and Ingomar outscored the Lady Bears, 24-12, making it a three-point game at the end of the frame after free throws from Heather Dillard.

  • Urchins earn big win over Ingomar on senior night

    The Urchins finally had its big moment against Ingomar.

    Playing the Falcons close in two previous meeting this season, East Union came from behind on senior night, defeating the Falcons, 60-53.

    “I know it means a lot to these guys to perform on a night like tonight,” Urchins head coach Tim McDonald said. “They were emotional before the game, and it doesn’t matter what night it is, you have to play your guts out against Ingomar. That’s what they did tonight.”

  • Mabon leads Lions over Myrtle

    Myrtle is hoping to catch a break entering the final week of the regular season and with the division tournament coming up next week.

    Having lost its last three division games by less than 10 points in each contest, the Hawks entered last Friday’s game against H.W. Byers hoping to close out the district slate with a win.

  • Robertson's Lady Challenge takes place this weekend

    The 16th annual Robertson’s Sportswear Lady Challenge fighting cancer tournament will take place this Saturday, Feb. 2, at North Pontotoc.
    East Union and Ingomar will represent Union County in this year’s tournament, taking on Pine Grove and Alcorn Central, respectively.
    The Lady Urchins will open the tournament against Pine Grove at 10 a.m. The Lady Panthers are currently 19-7 on the season, led by Bryana Davis scoring 17.6 points per game. Pine Grove’s most recent win came against Wheeler, 71-39, on Tuesday.

  • Area teams compete in the Hotbed Classic

    West Union opened the annual Kiwanis Hotbed Classic with an exciting game against Kossuth. Despite the efforts of RJ Coleman, the Eagles dropped a 57-55 contest, with the senior leading all scorers with 23 points.

    Coleman helped the Eagles jump out to a 10-point lead, 22-12, after the first quarter, scoring 12 points. Down 9-4 in the frame, the Eagles outscored Kossuth, 18-3, and Tyler Wooley made it a double figure lead with his three-pointer at the end of the quarter.

  • Player of the Week: Devonte Williamson

    Helping the Falcons to its first Union County championships since 2010, Ingomar’s Devonte Williamson earns Player of the Week honors, particularly for his performance against East Union.

    Against the Urchins last Friday, Williamson dropped 22 points in the 65-60 semifinal win.
    “He’s our emotional and energy leader on the team,” Ingomar head coach Jonathan Ashley said. “He leads us by example, and he hustles on every play. He’s a hard nosed player and consistently performs well for us.”

  • Falcons, Lady Bulldogs win UCT championships

    Playing three games in as many nights, fourth seeded Ingomar prevailed on Saturday to win the 2013 Union County Tournament championship after a 68-59 win over New Albany.

  • Union County Tournament: Day 2

    The second night of the Union County Tournament was highlighted by two close match ups on the boys’ side, setting up a rematch of last year’s title game between New Albany and Ingomar.

    The Falcons held on in its semifinal contest against top-seeded East Union, 65-60, despite giving up a double-digit lead in the second half. Sam Cobb put Ingomar ahead by 11, 35-24, to open the third quarter, but late scoring from Vadale Rucker put the Urchins within five, 46-41, to close the frame.
