  • Defending champs' season comes to an end

Young and determined, West Union had a strong effort to open their second round series versus Smithvile, but the Lady Eagles could not carry that throughout the day, falling to the Lady Seminoles in three games.

West Union opened the day watching Smithville score four runs off four hits and two Lady Eagle errors. “We never had a runner reach third, and it was just an overall offensive struggle for us,” he said.

Broderick Montgomery has led the offense thus far, but an ankle sprain sidelined the running back in the first quarter.
“We were a little shaken up after his injury, and up until that point, we were driving the ball down field and had put together a good drive,” UC head coach Scott Duley said. “We were rattled, but once we calmed down, we were able to accomplish what we needed to.”

  • On to the next one

Myrtle and West Union easily handled their opponents in the opening round of the 2010  playoffs, with both advancing to second round action.

  • Goolsby leads West Union over Lady Cougars

On a night the Lady Eagles celebrated their seniors, Leah Paige Goolsby gave her team a win in the end of the regular season, 2-1, against South Pontotoc last Thursday.
Neither offense produced any runs until the seventh inning, and the game went into extra innings. Goolsby’s triple broke the tie, giving West Union the win heading into the playoffs.
Gina Beth Conlee had three hits to lead West Union, while Julianna Garner had two hits for the Lady Eagles.
Jala Parker led South Pontotoc with two hits.
