  • East Union wins first county archery tournament

    On Monday, a different kind of Union County Tournament took place at East Union.
    It didn’t involve basketball or any of the other major sports for that matter. Instead, it was archers from three schools, calmly stepping to the line, exhibiting great focus and concentration, shooting to be the best in the county in archery.

  • Hawks fall to Alcorn Central

    Alcorn Central used a three-run fifth inning to move past Myrtle, winning 4-2 on Saturday.
    The Bears struck first, stealing home and taking the 1-0 lead. The Hawks quickly answered in the bottom of the frame, placing runners on the corners and Anthony Lipsey coming home on a wild pitch to tie the game.

    East Union picked up its second win in a row on Monday night, defeating county rival West Union, 16-0, on the road.

  • Hunt leads EU over Biggersville

    The Lady Urchins were well aware of what Lady Lions’ pitcher Taylor Beth Nash is capable of. Recording 16 strikeouts in a game earlier this season, East Union’s offense came prepared, taking an 11-1 win last Thursday.

    JACKSON -- A few pins separated East Union from another state championship for the school, but the Urchins and Lady Urchins had a great showing in Jackson, both reaching the finals for Class I last Friday.

    The Falcons had the effort, but Biggersville made a few more plays in the 1A north half showdown last Thursday, resulting in a 70-62 win for the Lions.

  • Area girls' teams fall in first round

    The three remaining girls teams in Union County saw its season come to an end on Monday, falling in the first round of the north half playoffs.
    The outstanding career of New Albany’s Jazmine Spears came to an end after a heart breaking 61-60 loss at Greenwood.
    Spears led the Lady Bulldogs with 29 points, 20 rebounds, and did so despite picking up her fourth personal foul late in the second quarter.

  • Falcons, Bulldogs advance

    The first quarter was everything the Falcons could have hoped for. The lead built in that frame gave Ingomar the momentum needed to take an 82-52 win over Montgomery County on Tuesday.
    Henry Foster seemed unstoppable, going 4-for-4 from behind the arc and posting 17 points in the first quarter, pacing the Falcons to a 31-6 lead. The second quarter went to the Hornets, who out scored Ingomar, 22-13, but Ingomar pieced together a good second half to pick up the win.

  • Five teams prepare for bowling finals

    Five teams will represent Union County on Friday for the bowling state championships in Jackson. After regionals two weeks ago, the teams have prepared for the final match of the season, and each has its eye on bringing another state championship to the county.
    East Union enters as the top seed for both the boys and girls, and for the teams, practice was as usual in preparation for state.

  • Urchins finish in third for Region 1-2A

    East Union’s road in the division tournament pinned both of the Urchins and Lady Urchins against Baldwyn in the semifinals last Thursday. After falling to the Bearcats and Lady Bearcats, East Union played in the consolation games on Friday.
    The Lady Urchins were defeated by Baldwyn, 77-46, behind a 32-point performance by Ayana Ragin.
    The Lady Bearcats jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter, opening the game scoring the first 12 points. Ashley Leach led the Lady Urchins with eight points at the break, that saw Baldwyn ahead, 34-21.
