  • Recap from Union/Prentiss Shootout

    West Union 71 Thrasher 64

    The Eagles fought from behind in the opener of the Union/Prentiss Shootout, defeating Thrasher 71-64.

    Zak Jumper helped West Union stay within three points after the first quarter despite eight points by O’Neal Cummings. Cummings scored 10 of Thrasher’s 16 second quarter points, as they went ahead 34-27 at the half.

  • Girls take center stage in Renasant Challenge

    New Albany has become accustomed to facing big opponents this season, and one of their biggest tests met them in the Renasant Bank Girls Challenge on Saturday.

    Memphis Central currently boasts a top 10 ranking and two of the best players in the nation. If there were any pregame jitters for the Lady Bulldogs, it showed early with the Lady Warriors jumping to an early 11-3 lead with five points coming from Nina Davis.

  • Union County's best in baseball to join Northeast

    Northeast Mississippi Community College head baseball coach Kent Farris had a big night at his annual signing ceremony on Thursday, January 20.

    Northeast’s veteran baseball coach picked up six signees and 10 commitments to the Northeast baseball program during the ceremony held between the Lady Tiger and Tiger basketball games against Mississippi Delta.

  • Renasant Challenge features big match-ups

    Ingomar will play host to some of the region’s best teams in this weekend’s Renasant Bank/Relay for Life Girls Challenge.

    New Albany and Myrtle will each square off in an afternoon slate that feature four of the state’s top 10 teams along with one of the best teams in the nation in Memphis Central.

  • Falkner holds on for wins at East Union

    Trey Barkley and the Urchins almost posted a big come-from-behind win, but fell short in the end against Falkner, 74-71 Tuesday night.

  • Union County roundup for 2011 Hotbed Classic

    Houlka 66 West Union 51

    The Wildcats were able to pull away in the second half of their contest against West Union, earning the 15-point win in the opener of the Hotbed Classic.

    Down only 14-10 at the start of the second quarter, the Eagles took the lead in the frame off a free throw by Kyle Taylor and maintained a two-point advantage at the half, up 27-25.

    Corey Pulliam hit three triples in the third quarter, but the Eagles remained close with Kyle tying the game at 30 before the Wildcats pulled away in the fourth quarter.

  • 1,000 wins for Ashley

    Ingomar accomplished several feats with their Friday night win at Potts Camp. The team is now at .500 on the season at 11-11, they improve their division record to 4-1 and for their head coach, he has now reached the 1,000 win mark for his career as a boys coach.

    Norris Ashley has been at the helm of Ingomar for 40 seasons, and as a tribute to his dedication to the program, celebrated his remarkable accomplishment; one that was almost put on hold courtesy of the Cardinals.

  • Lady Hawks tied for first after win

    Chris Greer has watched his squad drop several close games this season, but the Lady Hawks were able to hold on for a big division win over H.W Byers, 53-51, Friday night.

    Myrtle went on a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter, but like in their other losses this season, turnovers and missed shots almost cost them the game, as the Lady Lions responded with a game-tying run, led by five points from Alexis Hardaway.

  • Ingomar cheer wins state

    Long hours and numerous practices paid off for the cheerleading squad of Ingomar. Competing in the Small Varsity 1A division at the 2010 state champions, the girls brought a title home, earning enough points to qualify as state champions.

  • Bulldog Sweep

    New Albany has a flair for the dramatic and once again came from behind to top Myrtle, capturing the Union County Girls Championship, 53-45, Saturday night.

    A packed house on Myrtle’s home court watched the Lady Hawks command most of the game until the fourth quarter. Down by nine, New Albany went on a 21-4 run to close the game and capture their third straight UCT title.
