    Lady Bulldogs win second straight North Half title

    For the second year in a row, it took overtime for the Lady Bulldogs to claim the North Half Championship, as they earned the 46-42 win over Pontotoc on Saturday.

  • North Half Semifinal Recap

    Twelve months separate the two times New Albany and Lafayette have faced one another. The last match-up saw the Lady Bulldogs edge the Lady Commodores in double overtime to win the North Half Championship. This year, the stakes were higher, as the two squads battled knowing that only one would advance to Jackson.

     

    Defense was the story for the Lady ‘Dawgs, as they held Lafayette to only 35 points, leading to their semifinal win.

  • Myrtle moves on to North Half semifinals

    Myrtle is finding ways to win, and despite 29 points from Okolona’s Quinndella Ford, the Lady Hawks pulled away for the 68-44 win Thursday night in Coldwater.

     

    Both teams saw their top players get into early foul trouble, but that did not hurt the Lady Hawks, who held a 33-19 lead at the half with both Aspriona Gilbert and Halle Knowles recording three first half fouls, along with Ford and Victoria Cunningham for the Lady Chieftains.

    If snow wiped out much of last week’s Blue Mountain College sports, this week’s schedule will make up for it.
    Both women’s and men’s basketball teams will play nationally ranked teams on the road and at home; softball will hit the road for a doubleheader; and baseball will play one game on the road then return to open its home season.

  • Lady Hawks survive first round scare from Pine Grove

    No one is happier to be moving on the next round of the North Half playoffs than Myrtle head coach Chris Greer. After a disappointing loss to Byers in the Division 2-1A championship last Saturday, the Lady Hawks struggled in their opening round match-up against Pine Grove Monday night.

  • Hawks, Falcons fall in semifinals

    When the boys championship game in Region 2-1A tips off Saturday night, it will be without two of the more dominant teams in the division, as Myrtle and Ingomar were both upset in their semifinal match-ups Friday night.

     

    Potts Camp won in the final seconds off free throws by Kris Roberts to move into the finals against H.W. Byers.

  • Lady Hawks advance to division championship

    Myrtle and H.W. Byers will square off once more, as they will vie for the Region 2-1A championship Saturday night.

     

    Neither team had a problem advancing from the semifinal round, with the Lady Hawks defeating Potts Camp, 81-38.

    Aspriona Gilbert scored nine of Myrtle’s 20 first quarter points, while Meshay Cox hit two three-pointers to give the Lady Hawks a 20-10 advantage at the end of the frame.

  • Lady Falcons advance to division semifinals

    Shooting lights out from three-point range, Ingomar defeated their county rival to advance to the semifinals of the Division 2-1A tournament on Tuesday, winning 44-31.

     

    Kayla Stevens led the charge, hitting four triples in the first frame, helping the Lady Falcons build an early 9-0 lead. Ingomar hit 5-of-9 from behind the arc, but West Union kept it close, closing the gap to a 17-12 deficit at the end of the first frame.

  • Ripley outlasts Lady Hawks

    Myrtle was unable to shake a second half run, falling to Ripley, 63-48, on Friday.

    After Tasha Graham tied the game with her jumper right before the half, the Lady Tigers opened the third quarter with a three-pointer by Shunquest Howell, and Ripley went ahead by as many as 10 before a timeout by Myrtle.

    Baskets by Aspriona Gilbert and Jenna Jordan made it a six-point game, but Ripley responded with a 6-0 run to take a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter.

  • Byers takes wins at West Union

    A lot has changed for the Eagles in only a week. West Union went on the road to H.W. Byers five days ago and were dealt a 41-point division loss. Led by a 26-point game by Austin Harkness, the Eagles almost pulled off the upset in the rematch against the Lions before falling 81-72 Tuesday night.

    An early triple by the junior gave the Eagles a 7-4 lead, and West Union would go ahead by seven off a 7-0 run in the frame. Byers responded with a 10-0 run, and free throws by Martarious Rayford at the end of the quarter gave the Lions a 18-16 lead.
