  • Urchins fall in Booneville Tournament

    East Union had a fast start in their Tuesday game against Alcorn Central, but could not hold on, falling in extra innings, 11-10.

  • East Union runners sign with Blue Mountain College

    Jose Valle and Drew Bruce, who helped lead East Union to second place in the Mississippi 2A Cross Country Championship, signed grants-in-aid with Blue Mountain College on Friday.

  • Myrtle earns extra-inning win over Pine Grove

    The Hawks took Pine Grove to extra innings to earn their first win of the season Friday night.

     

    Myrtle had runners on the corners with no outs in the eighth, and a miscue from catcher to third base brought Sid Beasley home to give the Hawks the 7-6 win.

  • Bogue leads West Union over South Pontotoc

    Bailey Bogue had three hits, including a base-clearing triple in the sixth inning of West Union’s 10-5 win over South Pontotoc on Thursday.

    Ahead 7-5, Bogue’s insurance hit with bases loaded capped the four-hit inning for the Lady Eagles, helping them earn their third win of the season.

    The Lady Cougars built an early 4-0 lead after three innings thanks to two doubles from Anna Roberts. Michelle Gregory and Kaitlyn Cox also had RBI hits, and it would take West Union until the bottom of the third to score their first points.

  • Hickory Flat, East Union name athletes to All-Division team

    The Region 1-2A All-Division team for boys basketball was recently announced, with several area players selected. Below is the complete regular season and All-Touranment teams:

    REGION 1 – 2A AWARDS  ~ BOYS
    Coach of the Year: Jason McKay (Baldwyn)
    CO-MVP: Reggie Patterson and Dee Gates (Baldwyn)
    Offensive Player of the Year: Darius Dukes (Ashland)
    Defensive Player of the Year: Anthony Tucker (Hickory Flat)

  • Eagles capture first boys' bowling championship

    Barbara White has spent several years coaching the West Union bowling teams, with the girls picking up a state title in 2008, and the boys falling shy in two of the four years they have participated. The Eagles added to their success in the sport, claiming the first boys’ title, defeating defending champion East Union in Baker Style at the state championships last Friday.
    “We felt after North Half that it would come down to the two of us in the finals, and it’s a friendly rivalry, so it was great that it turned out that way,” White said.

  • Dexter tops Myrtle in State semifinal

    Myrtle battled from behind on several opportunities, but were unable to come up with one last run, falling to Dexter, 72-68 in the semifinals of the 1A State Tournament in Jackson Friday night.

     

    Down by seven with less than a minute remaining, Robert Montgomery scored four straight points for the Hawks, making it a three-point game, but that is as close as the North Half champions would get.

  • Myrtle prepares for semifinal match-up

    The Hawks will be the county’s first team to play in their State semifinal match-up, taking on the number two seed from the South, Dexter, tonight.
    The Bulldogs come into the game having lost to Durant in the South State Finals last week and boast a 22-6 record. Led by 6’1 senior Tyler Hart, Dexter had an impressive run in the South State Tournament, knocking off McAdams in the second round along with then undefeated West Lincoln to advance to the State Tournament.

  • Lady Eagles, Urchins claim North Half bowling championships

    Two schools continued their winning tradition at the State Qualifying Bowling meet last Friday, as West Union girls and East Union boys both earned first place finishes, advancing to the State Championships this week.
    The Lady Eagles picked up their win in the Baker Style round against Kossuth, as the Lady Aggies led throughout the four games, finishing first with 2,605 to West Union’s 2,436.

  • Revitalized Hawks win North Half Championship

    Monday afternoon, Myrtle head coach Jonathan Ashley was on the phone, working on his schedule for next season. This time last year, he did the same thing, planning several tough  opponents in a row to prepare his team for the playoffs.
