  • Eagles sweep Tremont to move on to round two

    The bat of Hunter McQuary propelled the Eagles into the second round of the 1A playoffs after West Union finished the sweep of Tremont, 15-1, on Saturday.

    The senior knocked two home runs, including a second inning grand slam after having a slow night on Friday in the team’s 6-0 victory on the road.

    “He’s been like that for five years now,” West Union head coach Ashley Russell said of his senior. “He did a great job today after struggling last night. He came back today and did a great job.”

  • Dramatic game one goes in favor of Myrtle

    Russ Yates’ third hit of the game was the biggest for the Hawks in their first round match-up with Smithville. With runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the seventh of a tied game, the senior drove in the deciding run to give Myrtle the 1-0 advantage in the series with the 11-10 win Friday night.

  • County teams set for playoffs

    West Union closed out the regular season and claimed the number two seed in Division 2-1A after defeating Myrtle, 13-5, on Tuesday.
    Will Basil pitched the complete game, striking out nine batters and allowing eight Hawk hits and two earned runs.
    At the plate, Basil was one of four Eagle batters with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and a double. Hunter McQuary, Chase Bogue and Taylor English each went 2-for-5, as the Eagles finished the regular season at 11-10 (8-2).

  • Ingomar claims division championship, defeating Myrtle

    Andy Wilbanks was exhausted during his team’s game against Myrtle on Thursday. Spending the day witnessing the birth of his second child, he took a different approach to the game, opting to take a step back and let his team work their way out of an early 4-1 deficit. His patience worked, as the Falcons eventually run ruled the Hawks, 15-5, to win the Division 2-1A championship.

  • Lady Eagles hold on for win at Myrtle

    West Union’s undefeated division record was on the line Tuesday and looked to be in jeopardy at Myrtle. Despite a strong 5-0 start, the Lady Eagles rallied in the final innings of their 9-7 win.

    Bailey Bogue and Gina Beth Conlee each had hits in their first two at bats, leading West Union to the 4-0 start after three complete innings. Bogue brought in the game’s first run with her single and Conlee hit an RBI double in the third to make it 4-0.

  • Hawks defeat Falcons in division match-up

    The already tight race in Region 2-1A became that much closer Thursday night after Myrtle handed Ingomar their first division loss, 7-6.

     

    “Anytime you up a win against those guys, it’s good,” Myrtle Head Coach Robert Gordon said. “They’re a really good team, and we knew that coming in. We were just hoping to play a competitive game and keep things close and to battle with them.”

  • Sports physical screening set for May 5

    School personnel from the New Albany and Union County School Districts are working with local physicians, physical and occupational therapists, and athletic trainers to make preparations for the upcoming pre-participation sports physical screening event to be held on Thursday, May 5th.  For the fourth consecutive year, the physicians of Creekmore Clinic will allow the use of their office for this event.  However, Creekmore Clinic is not responsible for required follow-ups.
