Keeping up with competition is important, and the Union County School District is doing its part to stay on par with others in the state, adding and improving weight rooms at each of the schools.

Despite a loss Wednesday morning in the Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association For Better Baseball Summer Championship series, Chris Basil said he sees a lot of potential in East Union’s young baseball team.

West Union will mark the 50th anniversary of the school this fall, and when the celebration takes place in September, the school will also dedicate a remodeled gym, which is receiving an overhaul this summer.

Two Union County girls basketball coaching vacancies were filled Monday night with the hiring of Trent Adair at Ingomar and Shelley Parman at East Union, both bringing excitement and a connection from Hatley to Union County.

Parman joins the Lady Urchins after stints as a junior high coach at Dorsey Attendance Center and Iuka Middle School. Helping to rebuild the tradition at East Union is what excites the first-time high school coach.
