  • East Union battles in win over Myrtle

    East Union showed that practice makes perfect, using a big road loss last week as inspiration in their 9-8 win over Myrtle on Tuesday.

  • Union County falls at Hatley

    Union County experienced many growing pains in their season opener, falling on the road at Hatley, 53-12, Friday night.

     

    The Tigers’ rushing game caused problems all night for the Union County defense, accounting for all of their touchdowns. Gradon Pannell scored the first touchdown of the season for UC in the second quarter, making it 15-6, and Broderick Montgomery added the second score late in the fourth.

  • Union County ready for road battle

    Two and a half weeks have led to Friday's showdown in Hatley, where Union County will open the 2011 season. Preparing for the Tigers, Head Coach Scott Duley has shown his team several possibilities they could face in their first game.

  • North Pontotoc edges Ingomar in extra innings

    It took an eighth inning rally for North Pontotoc to top Ingomar on Tuesday, as the Lady Falcons held tough before falling 8-5.

     

    Tied at five in the extra frame, the Lady Vikings recorded five straight hits, scoring three runs to pick up the win.

  • County teams open slow pitch season

    Union County opened the 2011 softball season on Saturday with Myrtle and East Union holding preseason tournaments.

     

    At Myrtle, New Albany picked up two wins, defeating West Union 11-4 in the day’s first game and Wheeler, 3-0.

    Against the Lady Eagles, Morgan Beaty had four hits, including two doubles and two RBI. After going ahead 1-0 in the first, New Albany scored seven runs in the second, recording six straight hits.

  • East Union approved for addition of track and field program

    East Union will soon become the third school in Union County with a track and field program, as the addition was approved for the school during the Union County School Board meeting on Monday night.

  • Ready for football

    Area football teams hit the field on Monday in preparation for the new season. Locally, New Albany and Union County both opened two-a-day practices, each with high hopes for 2011.

  • Taylor rejoins former coach at ICC

    Danielle Taylor has consistently proven over her years at West Union that big things come in small packages. After a successful career with the Lady Eagles, Taylor takes her game to Itawamba Community College, where she will reunite with a familiar face in Head Coach Andy Kirk.

    One Union County standout had the opportunity to play among the best in the state, participating in the Junior All-Star game, sponsored by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.

  • County schools work on weight rooms

    Keeping up with competition is important, and the Union County School District is doing its part to stay on par with others in the state, adding and improving weight rooms at each of the schools.
