  • Myrtle's Gilbert signs with Austin Peay

     The wait is over and the next chapter in the career of Myrtle’s Aspriona Gilbert is set, as the Dandy Dozen selection signed a letter of intent to play at Austin Peay University on Thursday as part of the school’s early signing period.

    “I’m very excited. I had a lot of fun, and it was very exciting for me,” Gilbert said of the recruiting process. “It was a very hard decision between them and Delta State, but I chose Austin Peay because it felt very homey, home away from home. I feel like they’re already my family.”

  • New Albany, Myrtle split in round one of rivalry

  • Cox named 'Player of the Year' in 2-1A

    Myrtle earned top honors in Division 2-1A for slow pitch softball, as Meshay Cox and Robert Gordon were named the Player and Coach of the Year for the division.
    Cox, a junior, was one of four Lady Hawks named to the All-Division team after winning the district championship and making it to the north half finals against Smithville.
    Joining Cox on the list are seniors Aspriona Gilbert, Jenna Jordan and Kiana Judon. Earning honorable mention for Myrtle were Keely Chunn and Emily Cook.

  • Hickory Flat sweeps Ingomar in season opener

     Hickory Flat’s bench play was the difference maker, as the Rebels held on for an 89-81 win at Ingomar on Saturday.

    Despite being outsized by the Rebels, Ingomar played a fast tempo and stayed close, trailing 18-14 after the first quarter.

    Down by as many as 12 in the second quarter, Ingomar pulled within six at the half large in part to 15 first half points from Steven Foster.
