  • Union County Tournament: Day Two

     It was the lower seeded teams advancing to the championship on the boys’ side, and for the second time in three years, the title game of the Union County Tournament will feature the Falcons and Bulldogs.

    Denzel Siddell scored a game-high 35 to lead Ingomar in an upset of top seeded Myrtle, 83-74, a game head coach Norris Ashley said was one of his team’s best this season.

  • Union County Tournament: Day One

     The three-time defending champs had a tough start on its quest for a fourth consecutive title. Led by 41 points by Jazmine Spears, New Albany pulled out a 64-52 win over West Union to open the 2012 Union County Tournament on Thursday.

    Spears scored 12 first quarter points, helping the Lady Bulldogs to a 17-8 lead, but West Union stayed within striking distance with 11 first half points from Samantha Bridges.

  • Lady Hawks hold on to remain undefeated

     Win number 18 may have been difficult, but not only did the Lady Hawks prevail, they gained valuable experience playing in only its second close game of the season.

    “We played good, and that’s the first time this season that we’ve seen a true man-to-man,” coach Chris Greer said. “I thought Aspriona (Gilbert) did good, and Jenna Jordan not only hit some big three’s for us, but she did a good job of guarding Kaelin Kneeland. I thought it was a good game.”

  • Urchins hold on for home win against Thrasher

     East Union seemed well on its way, cruising toward its twelfth win of the season, but Thrasher did not back down until the end, with the Urchins winning 73-68 on Friday.

    “We held on, but we mentally broke down,” coach Tim McDonald said. “We worked hard and built a good lead, but we just broke down, and luckily we were able to hold on.”

  • Urchins pick up 10th win

    East Union had five players in double figures scoring, leading to its 81-54 win over South Pontotoc last Thursday.

  • East Union splits at Baldwyn Classic

    Chris Tables put on a show against Tremont, scoring 22 first half points to lead the Urchins to a 64-52 win on Tuesday.

  • Welcome to the Jungle

     It all started as a way to get the students of East Union more active in the games. 

    First-year girls’ coach, Shelly Parman, wanted to have a fun, active student section for the home games, and thanks to the creativity of a few, the “Beast from East” was born, wreaking havoc on all of the school’s opponents.

  • Conlee leads Lady Eagles in win at Lewisburg

     West Union used a big performance by an eighth grader, holding on to a 59-58 win at Lewisburg on Tuesday.

    Gracen Conlee connected on five three-pointers, finishing with 20 points, and it was her free throw in the fourth quarter that made the difference in the final.

  • Myrtle sweeps Lafayette in tournament

    Foul trouble could not slow the Lady Hawks down, and a 34-point performance by Aspriona Gilbert led Myrtle to a 61-41 win over Lafayette on Saturday.

  • County rivals split in bowling

    County rivals squared off on Tuesday, with West Union boys and East Union girls winning their respective matches.
