  • East Union sweeps Potts Camp, advances to second round

    East Union advanced out of this weekend’s opening round of the 2A north half playoffs with a sweep of Potts Camp.

    After defeating the Cardinals, 9-3, on the road Thursday, the Urchins swept the series with an 11-1 win in six innings at home on Friday night.

    “Potts Camp is a tremendous ball club, and they have three kids who could play for anyone,” East Union head coach Chris Basil said. “I thought our kids responded well and swung the bats, doing what they needed to do to be successful.”

  • Lady Hawks advance in playoffs

    Survive and advance. That was the message Myrtle coach Marty Cook gave to his team, and they delivered with two, one-run wins over Houlka to advance out of the play-in round of the 1A north half playoffs.

  • Ingomar falls to Vardaman in playoffs

    Ingomar’s season came to an end against Vardaman, falling 2-0 in the series.
    In Saturday’s game on at home, the Lady Falcons fell to the Lady Rams, 13-3, behind a four hit day for Vardaman’s Whittney Gee.

  • East Union finishes second in division

    East Union finished the regular season over the weekend and enter the playoffs as the two seed from Region 1-2A after falling at home to Baldwyn, 2-1, on Friday.

    From walk-on to record-setter, Dani Taylor (West Union) is making the most of her collegiate softball career by leaving her mark on the Itawamba Community College softball program.

    Northeast Mississippi Community College head baseball coach Kent Farris has added the tenth athlete to his 2013-14 recruiting class.

  • Eagles win at Myrtle

    Hunter Jennings had two hits to lead West Union in a 6-2 win at Myrtle on Tuesday.
    The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, with Chase Bogue, Caleb Jennings and Alex Work bringing in runs.
    Andrew Childers and Hunter Jennings would extend that lead in the fifth, with Childers hitting and RBI single and Jennings an RBI double, making it 5-0.
    The Hawks scored their first runs in the fifth, placing runners on the corners for Anthony Lipsey. Taylor Hogue stole home before Lipsey brought in Austin Floyd on a single.

  • Urchins shut out New Site

    East Union improved to 6-1 in division play, shutting out New Site, 6-0, on Tuesday.
    Behind the efforts of Austin Sanders on the mound, the senior held the Royals to five hits and had five strikeouts in the win.

  • All-County basketball team selected

    County coaches met last Thursday, selecting this year’s All-County basketball team, the top players from each school this season.
    Headlining  the girls’ selections is Mississippi State signee Jazmine Spears, who led the Lady Bulldogs to a county tournament title, regular season division title and a playoff appearance.
    The senior led the Lady Bulldogs, averaging 27.8 points per game and 14.9 rebounds per game. She is joined on the All-County team by teammate Erin Michael Carter.

  • Lady Eagles defeat Myrtle

    West Union came one step closer to the division title in Region 2-1A, defeating Myrtle, 10-3 on Monday.
