  • Myrtle girls, East Union boys win Union County XC championship

    Youth have stepped up for this year’s top county cross country teams. Competing in the Union County championships on Saturday at East Union, Myrtle girls and East Union boys took home top honors in the varsity races.

    For the Lady Hawks, this was the best race of the year, by far, according to their coach, Chris Greer. Led by Kitana High, who was the overall top female runner with a time of 16:33, the Lady Hawks had seven runners finish in the top 15.

  • East Union, Myrtle fall in second round

    East Union and Myrtle faced tough opponents in the second round of the playoffs on Saturday, falling to Hamilton and Smithville, respectively.

    The Lady Urchins were unable to hold on to its lead in the first game of its series, eventually falling 11-3.

    Mallory Roberts had a double to open the game and scored on an error later in the frame. East Union extended that lead to 3-1 after the second inning, but the Lady Lions scored 10 runs over the final three innings to take the win.

  • Lady Eagles advance to north half title game

    Hot bats all day helped the Lady Eagles soar into the north half championship after a sweep of Jumpertown, 12-3 and 17-6, on Saturday.

    West Union trailed the Lady Cardinals, 3-2, going into the bottom of the fourth inning in game one. Loading the bases with one out, Kylie Massengill tied the game with her single, and Callie Baggett gave the Lady Eagles a huge boost with an inside the park grand slam, giving West a 7-3 lead.

  • Potts Camp tops Urchins

    The East Union Urchins played its last home game and next to last game of the season against the Potts Camp Cardinals on Friday night, suffering a 41-20 loss.

    The Urchins made plays defensively, but where never able to get much going on the offensive side and were unable to capitalize on mistakes by the Cardinals.

    East Union head coach Scott Duley said his team struggled offensively and gives credit to the Potts Camp team.

  • Rivals head to town for New Albany, East Union

    Lafayette and Potts Camp travel to Union County this weekend for the home finalies for New Albany and East Union.
    The Commodores, two-time defending state champions in 4A, will take on the Bulldogs with the winner in control for the division title in Region 2-4A. Lafayette enters the game at 7-1, having only lost to Oxford earlier this season. For New Albany, Coach Ron Price is proud of last week’s performance at North Pontotoc and hopes to see that same effort this week.

  • Union County softball teams advance to next round

    East Union and West Union opened the postseason with commanding first round series wins at home.

    Hosting Shelby Broad Street, the Lady Urchins easily advanced to round two after winning 12-0 and 26-0.

    A trio of Lady Urchins had three hits in the second game, and the team had two inside the park home runs from Callie Frazier and Tianna Castillo.

  • East Union pulls away for win over New Site

    East Union will tell you there is one play that they run successfully, and that’s what the Urchins turned to the most in a 70-54 win over New Site on Thursday.

    “Basically, the play we ran the most was the counter, and we were able to get through every time,” senior running back Broderick Montgomery said. “If we missed it once, it was because of a missed block, but we would come back and get that missed block, so offense was the key tonight.”

  • Urchins down Benton County at home

    The East Union Urchins broke its three-game losing streak Friday night as they hosted the Benton County Buccaneers, defeating them 54-14 and bringing their record to 3-3.

    East Union head Coach Scott Duley said this victory provides a much-need confidence boost to his team.
