  • New Albany tennis sweeps...

    New Albany golf and tennis were in action on Tuesday, taking on Senatobia in tennis and Oxford in golf.
    The Chargers topped the Bulldogs in golf by 10 strokes, 162-172. Ryne Stanford was the medalist for the match, shooting a 38 for New Albany. Other scores for New Albany were: Jake Cissom 43, Will Robbins 44, Boone Faulkner and Jack Cooper 47.
    Ward Toler was the top finisher for Oxford, shooting a 39.

  • Spears named division player of...

    New Albany’s Jazmine Spears ended her standout career with the Lady Bulldogs last month and for her efforts this season, was named the Region 2-4A Most Valuable Player.
    For the second consecutive year, Spears led the team in all statistical categories; points (27.8), assists (4.4), blocks (1.9) and rebounds per game (14.9), helping the Lady Bulldogs to a regular season division title.
    Also named to the All-Division team from New Albany was Erin Michael Carter. The junior averaged 6.4 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game this season.

    Ingomar opened division play with a convincing 17-0 win in five innings over Coldwater on Tuesday.

    There are plenty of baseball and softball tournaments going on this week, as we lead up to the beginning of division play for our area teams.
    This weekend, East Union, Ingomar and New Albany will be at the North Pontotoc Tournament, playing in six games total. The Lady Bulldogs (1-4) look to get back on the winning side, playing North Pontotoc and Tupelo, Walnut and Falkner. Ingomar will also take on North Pontotoc and Tupelo in the final games on Saturday, and East Union will play North Pontotoc and Ripley in the first two games of Saturday.

  • Bulldogs play in spring break...

    New Albany entered the Oxford Spring Break Tournament with a perfect 7-0 record, recently beating Itawamba and Marshall Academy over the weekend.
    Taking on Concordia Lutheran out of Texas and Southaven on the first day of the tournament, New Albany dropped two games, each by the score of 6-0.
    Against the Crusaiders, Adam Oller was impressive both on the mound and at the plate, finishing with two hits and an RBI and picking up the win for Concordia.

    West Union is on a three-game win streak after last weekend’s appearance at the Booneville Tournament.

  • New Albany softball wins at...

    New Albany has stormed back after a 1-4 start, picking up four wins at the North Pontotoc Tournament over the weekend, including a victory over Tupelo, and enters division play at 5-4.
    “We’ve been struggling at the plate with timing, and we’ve seen two polar opposite pitching styles,” New Albany coach Tom Zahller said. “We needed to see good, consistent pitching to get our timing back. Both games on Friday were real solid wins. “

  • East Union wins first county...

    On Monday, a different kind of Union County Tournament took place at East Union.
    It didn’t involve basketball or any of the other major sports for that matter. Instead, it was archers from three schools, calmly stepping to the line, exhibiting great focus and concentration, shooting to be the best in the county in archery.

  • New Albany tennis splits matches

    New Albany tennis split two matches last week, defeating Pontotoc, 6-1, and falling to Oxford, 7-0.
    Below are the results for the match at Oxford.
    Boys singles: Quinn Elliott (O),defeated New Albany’s Parker Nail, 6-1,6-2
    Boys doubles: Baxter Elliott-Robert Nance(O) defeated Christian Scott- Christopher Scott 6-3,6-3; Will Swindoll-Callan Shinall (O) defeated Micheal Crotts-Christopher Shands 6-3,6-1
    Girls Singles: Grace Ann Jones (O) defeated Elleigh Hall 6-2,6-0
