    Myrtle’s offense is best described as having one explosive inning per game, and that one inning came in the seventh, as the Lady Hawks defeated Ingomar, 14-6, on Tuesday.

    West Union baseball coach Ashley Russell knew that his 100th career win would most likely come this year, but despite the attention it has received, the focus remains on the Eagles working on another playoff run.

  • East Union, Myrtle pick up...

    The Hawks and Urchins picked up division wins on Tuesday, defeating H.W. Byers (5-4) and Hatley (6-4), respectively.
    In Myrtle’s win over Byers, the Lions took an early 3-2 lead after the first with the Hawks taking the win in the final inning.
    Austin Floyd improved to 2-0 on the mound with the win, and the senior, along with Anthony Lipsey had multiple hits.

    To many in the crowd, it was just another in-county division game. Ingomar and West Union battled for seven innings with the Falcons coming out on top. But the pitching performance of one Ingomar senior quickly became the talk after the 9-0 win.

  • New all-star game presents...

    A new all-star game will debut in May, giving area senior football players one last chance to showcase their talents for college coaches.
    Sponsored by Darrell Robertson and run by the coaches in Northeast Mississippi, the game will feature athletes from Corinth to Columbus and the teams are split at Highway 45 into the East and West squads. Robertson is no stranger to sponsoring these games, as he already holds similar games for basketball, softball and baseball during the summer.

  • Falkner holds on to defeat West...

    West Union found itself down by as many as 10 in its non-division game against Falkner last Thursday. Instead of backing down to the Eagles, West Union stormed back to make it a competitive game, eventually falling 19-11 at home.

    I couldn’t tell you the last time I took part in the March Madness fun, filling out a bracket and taking part in various tournament pools. It wasn’t that long ago that I hosted an annual tournament challenge among my Facebook friends, and while I never won my own pool, I took more pride in beating my brother and his best friend in Alaska.
