  • Area teams advance in playoffs

    The Bulldogs fought from behind to take the first round series against Pontotoc on Friday.
        After defeating the Warriors, 7-3, on Thursday, New Albany found itself down the entire game after a solo home run by Trey Henry in the second inning gave Pontotoc the 1-0 lead.
    In the seventh, Grant Hogue and Jimmy Baldon reached base on singles, and with two outs, Jonah Zahller drove in the two runs to take the lead, 2-1. Ben Foster pitched the complete game for the Bulldogs and shut down the Warriors in the bottom of the seventh to earn the sweep.

  • Lady Eagles sweep Jumpertown

    The Lady Eagles had to wait almost a week and a half to play its first round playoff series against Jumpertown, but that did not slow them down, as they swept the series, capped by an 11-1 win at home on Tuesday.

  • New Albany tennis wins north...

    New Albany is heading back to Jackson to defend its state title in 4A tennis after the Bulldogs earned a 5-2 win at Pontotoc in the north half finals on Thursday.

    New Albany picked up wins in girls’ doubles one and two, boys’ singles and boys’ doubles number two to clinch the north half title. The Bulldogs closed out the match, winning in girls’ number one singles and falling in boys’ number one doubles and in mixed doubles.

    East Union advanced out of this weekend’s opening round of the 2A north half playoffs with a sweep of Potts Camp.

    After defeating the Cardinals, 9-3, on the road Thursday, the Urchins swept the series with an 11-1 win in six innings at home on Friday night.

    “Potts Camp is a tremendous ball club, and they have three kids who could play for anyone,” East Union head coach Chris Basil said. “I thought our kids responded well and swung the bats, doing what they needed to do to be successful.”

    Survive and advance. That was the message Myrtle coach Marty Cook gave to his team, and they delivered with two, one-run wins over Houlka to advance out of the play-in round of the 1A north half playoffs.
