  • Myrtle falls 73-71 in 1A State...

     Despite several key runs throughout the second half, the Hawks were unable to complete the comeback, falling to Coldwater 73-71 in Jackson. Jimel Judon led Myrtle with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Beau Cummings and Justin Jordan each added 15 and David Wilson 13.

  • Hawks advance to the big game

    For the second time in three years the Hawks are back in the 1A State Championship game after dodging another disappointment early exit to claim a 61-52 victory over the Calhoun City Wildcats on Saturday.

    The Hawks (26-12) saw the Wildcats (22-14) battle back to take a 47-43 lead early in the fourth quarter, but a fiery timeout got Myrtle back on track.

  • NAHS picks up wins, Lady Urchins...

    Cold temperatures did not stop area softball and baseball games Monday night, as county teams suited up in several match-ups.

    East Union 8 Pine Grove 2

    A four-run sixth inning gave the Urchins a comfortable lead, as well as their fourth win of the year, defeating Pine Grove 8-2.

    Pine Grove would cut to within one run in the third, 2-1, then East Union scored six runs over three innings to pull away. The Urchins finished with 11 hits on the day with one error, while pitcher Craig Bullock only allowed four hits and Pine Grove had five errors.

  • Crawford takes over at NA...

    Creating more opportunities while enhancing what already exists is the goal for Kevin Crawford, the new director of New Albany Parks and Recreation. With previous experience with the parks and recreation department in Pearl, Crawford is returning home to run the Sportsplex.

  • Lady Hawks' comeback falls...

    Myrtle almost completed an incredible comeback only to fall short in the 1A State Semi-Final Friday night.

    The Lady Hawks faced off against one-seeded McAdams, and watched as the Lady Bulldogs raced to a 24-10 lead after the first quarter.

    Led by Dierra Gilmore with three baskets from behind the arc, McAdams connected on four three-pointers in the first frame.

  • NAHS unable to top Forest Hill

    Forest Hill was able to hold off a scrappy bunch of Lady Bulldogs to escape with a 49-38 victory in the Class 4A state tournament on Thursday.

    Back-to-back turnovers by Forest Hill (30-4) gave New Albany (27-5) a new sense of life when an offensive putback by Michah Washington made it a 41-38 game at the 2:41 mark of the fourth quarter.

    “We still had a chance with three minutes to go, but we couldn’t make the big basket when we needed to,” Coach John Stroud said.

  • Hawks flying south for State

    It was a long and emotional three days for Myrtle head coach Jonathan Ashley, but when the whirlwind was over he found himself standing on the baseline surrounded by fans and family still trying to soak in the reality of winning the 1A North State Championship.

    "This whole week really hasn't sunk in yet, but it's been a week that you have to give God all the glory for it," Coach Jonathan Ashley said.

  • Myrtle student prepares to...

    A local student will have the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to Australia to compete in a cross country meet this summer.

    Bryan Cook, a sophomore at Myrtle Attendance Center, has been running since the fifth grade and is beginning to take the sport seriously by competiting at a higher level.

    “Coach Greer asked me to run in the seventh grade, and I've run for him every year since,” Cook said. “ It's a lot of hard work, everyday working out. Coach Greer and I have workouts planned for every month, and I've been running all winter.”

  • County teams opening baseball/...

    East Union 10 West Union 3 (Baseball)

    Craig Bullock picked up his third win of the season as the Urchins defeated their county rival Tuesday night.

    C.J. and Chris Armstrong led East Union at the plate, as C.J. had multiple hits and both had doubles for the game.

    East Union improves to 4-1 while the Eagles drop to 0-3 after losing to New Albany in a 7-0 decision Monday night as well.

    Ingomar 9 Pine Grove 2 (softball)

    The Lady Falcons started their season strong Tuesday, defeating Pine Grove 9-2.

  • Lady 'Dawgs fall to Forest...

    New Albany's season came to an end Thursday afternoon versus Forest Hill in the 4A State Tournament in Jackson, 49-38.
