The Urchins dropped a 3-2 decision Monday despite outhitting Belmont.

  • Coldwater outlasts Hawks

Despite several runs in the second half, the Hawks were unable to defeat Coldwater for the second time in a row, as they lost 73-71 in the 1A State Championship Thursday night.

After watching the Cougars miss both free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining, the Hawks had an opportunity for one final play to try to tie or win, but a broken play is all Myrtle would have after the timeout, as they lost for the second time in three years for a state title.

Haley Taylor is getting comfortable with her new role as the designated batter for the Lady Falcon softball team.

Taylor is currently batting .476 on the season after going 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run to help lead Ingomar (4-4, 1-0) over the Hickory Flat Lady Rebels 14-0 in five innings on Tuesday.

Ingomar got on the board in the bottom of the second when Shelly Grisham smashed a RBI double to the fence in left to score Maggie Cobb from first, but the sophomore wasn’t done with her big-game heroics.
