    West Union 5

    Strayhorn 2

    The Lady Eagles remain undefeated in division play after defeating Strayhorn, 5-2 Tuesday night.

    Led by Danielle Taylor, West Union produced nine hits in the game, while Taylor only gave up two runs on one hit from the circle.

    Kimberly Jumper and Taylor each had multiple hits, including a double by Taylor, as well as Robyn Taylor.

    Strayhorn would have a two-run homerun in the sixth, but that was all the offense they would produce in the game.

  • Union County softball tournament...

    Due to recent rains and the threat of severe weather this evening, the Union County softball tournament has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

    "It's disappointing, especially for the seniors," Ingomar head coach Richard Byrd said Friday. "These ladies won't have an opportunity to play in their last county tournament, but you can't help what Mother Nature does."

    Area teams have one more week of the regular season before the state playoffs are scheduled to start.

  • Urchins win Union Co. Tournament

    East Union dethroned the two-time defending Union County Champion New Albany Bulldogs last Thursday, picking up their first county title since 2005.

    Only three teams participated in this year's Union County Tournament, as West Union and Myrtle were each playing games in Florida last week. This year's county showdown saw all three teams lose to one another, and going by least amount of runs given up, the Urchins claim the 2009 tournament crown. East Union gave up only eight runs, followed by Ingomar with 15 and New Albany with 16.

  • EU downs WU in first archery...

    County rivals squared off in the first archery match of the season, as East Union defeated West Union Monday night.

    The Urchins defeated the Eagles with a score of 2636 to West Union's 2498. Below are the individual scores.

  • Hawks, Urchins pick up wins

    Myrtle 12 Hickory Flat 2

    A seven-run second inning helped lead the Hawks to their fifth win of the year Tuesday night.

    Up 1-0 after the first, the Hawks scored on back-to-back doubles, as well as two passed balls to take the eight run lead after the second frame.

    Hickory Flat would score twice in the fourth, and Myrtle would respond with four runs in the fifth to end the game.

    Justin Hood (3-1) gave up two runs on three hits, while Cody Matlock gave up nine hits for the Rebels.

  • Tarrant: An athlete for all...

    Gathering outside the hitting cage, the members of New Albany's fast pitch softball team are socializing while taking turns getting in practice. For Ellen Tarrant, there is no time as she leaves from practicing with one sport to tryouts for another.

    This fast-paced life is one that the sophomore has come to enjoy, as she goes practically nonstop all year.

    Slow pitch softball, cheerleading, powerlifting and fast pitch softball are Tarrant's sports during the school year, not to mention traveling with Dizzy Dean softball during the summer.

  • Lady Urchins roll in North...

    The surprise story of the season continues as the East Union Lady Urchins picked up four wins during the North Pontotoc Tournament to remain unbeaten on the year.  One of those wins came in the form of a 10-7 shootout against the Houlka Lady Wildcats.

    Houlka plated four runs in the top of the first inning to put the Lady Urchins unbeaten streak in doubt early, but East Union rallied in the bottom half of the inning to score four runs of their own.

  • Error-prone Ingomar drops 7-2...

    It wasn’t the end to the Spring Break the Lady Falcons were looking for as an uncommon error-prone performance helped Ripley pick up a 7-2 win in the North Pontotoc Tournament on Saturday.

    Ripley took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Natalie Frenn reached on a one-out tripled in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game when she scored on a sac fly to left by Shauna Grisham.

  • Mistakes help Bulldogs pick up...

    The Bulldogs took advantage of late mistakes by the Red Raiders, taking the 6-1 win on Wednesday.

    Tied at one in the sixth, Joshua Googe was the first on base after being hit by a pitch. Tyler Basil advanced Googe on a sac bunt, then Easton Hall made his way on base after hitting a single. Drew Dodds was intentionally walked, loading the bases, and after a balk was called, Basil scored, giving the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead.
