  • County players make baseball All...

    Union County will be well represented in this year's Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association Baseball All-Star game, as 12 athletes from the five schools were selected for this year's game. Ashley Russell of West Union was also selected as one of the coaches. Below are the team's selected by the area coaches.

  • Ingomar-Myrtle schedule update

    Myrtle and Ingomar will square off this afternoon at 4:00 at Myrtle. If the Falcons take game 2, game 3 will follow at 7:30 at Ingomar due to the threat of rain later this evening into Wednesday.

    Be sure to read the New Albany Gazette on Friday for a series wrap-up as well as a preview for the North Half Championship, as the Myrtle-Ingomar winner will face off versus West Union starting on Thursday.

  • Eagles tomahawk Seminoles

    The Eagles did not give in after falling in game one of their series versus Smithville, as West Union took the series  to advance to the North Half semifinals this week.

    West Union fell 15-8 Thursday night to the Seminoles, despite an attempt to comeback.

    Down 13-3, the Eagles posted four runs in the third inning, but that was the last time they would score in the game, as Devin Brock took the loss on the mound.

  • Belhaven College signs former...

    A former East Union standout has another shot at playing the game he loves, as Drew Dillard signed to play baseball at Belhaven College in Jackson.

    The 2006 graduate started his collegiate career at Northeast Community College before moving on to Crichton College in Memphis. With the school shutting down, Dillard wanted to save his eligibility, so he left Crichton to pursue playing ball at another school.

  • NA Firecrackers pick up...

    Soccer in New Albany is one step closer to making its mark in the sport after one of the town's traveling teams picked up a tournament title this past weekend.

    New Albany resident Kevin Rowan has volunteered as a soccer coach for the past three years and is currently the president of the New Albany Soccer Association. Rowan hopes to increase interest in the sport, which is already one of the most popular in the United States.

  • County girls help local AAU team...

     The 15 and under Northeast Mississippi Lady Tigers will be playing in the AAU national tournament thanks to the four wins over the weekend at their Super Regional.

     Jazmine Spears of New Albany averaged 27 points in the four games to lead the Lady Tigers, who will play in July's national tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas, under coach Nathan Hodum. Hodum has coached at the AAU level for eight years, and knows this is the best team he has put in competition.

  • City gears up for college league

    Residents of New Albany have a new opportunity to enjoy America's past time, as the addition of the Cotton States Baseball League (CSBL) was announced Tuesday afternoon.

    Four area teams are currently being put together with all of the games being played at Legion Field at the New Albany Sportsplex. League officials talked to the community in a press conference, detailing what the wooden bat collegiate league will bring to the area.

  • Ingomar, Myrtle to face off in...

    Ingomar

    The Falcons were down early in game one versus Falkner, but Ingomar rallied to take the first game, then took the series on Friday to advance to the next round.

    Ingomar went on top 1-0 in the first, as a double by Josh Hodges scored Austin Gregory, who reached earlier on a walk.

    Hodges struck out five of his first seven batters before giving up three straight hits, including two doubles, as Falkner would take the 3-1 lead.

    The Falcons' bats would come alive the next three innings, as Ingomar had 12 runs to take the lead and game one.

  • NAHS golf wins district,...

    New Albany High's golf team once again claimed division titles and are now preparing for the state tournament in Jackson.

    The boys won their third title in a row, defeating Hernando, Pontotoc, Oxford and Center Hill. Below are the scores.

    New Albany 321 1st place

    Austin Holt 82, Tucker Holmes 78, Sam Cooper 78, Laden Stanford 83 and Blake Conlee 97.

    Hernando 345, 2nd place - qualified for state as a team.

    Trey Howell 82, Sam Anglin 84, Dylan Baskins 91, Austin Duykers 88 and John Michael Little 93.

  • Ingomar dominates Jaguars

    Ingomar had no problems advancing to the second round of the 1A state playoffs last Friday, as they downed Shelby Broad Street, 14-0 and 15-0.

    In game one, there was no surprise, as Falcon senior Josh Hodges torched the Jaguars on the mound, pitching a perfect game while striking out 16 of 18 batters.
