    NAHS cheerleading is looking toward the future, as plans are in the process for the squad to have their own practice facility.

    As approved in the June 1 school board meeting, coaches Mary Beth Muncie and Neely Robertson, along with the board are taking bids for the building, which could be open as early as October.

    "We need a practice facility," Muncie said. "It's like asking  the football team to practice on 60 yards, then on Friday night telling them you have to go out and win on a 100 yard field. That's how we're limited right now."

    The process for a county-wide football is one step closer to reality, as Union County superintendent Ken Basil has a temporary coach selected to help start the program in the fall of 2009.

    Tallahatchie remains undefeated on the season after picking up a pair of wins Monday night against the North Delta Dealers.

    After being suspended from Friday night, the Rascals picked up the win in extra innings, defeating the Dealers 3-2.

    Going to 12 innings, the game resumed with Tallahatchie at bat on Monday night after they held the Dealers in the top of the inning. Chris Lucius walked to start off the Rascals, with a single by Ben Wallis placing runners on the corners, and a basehit by Corbin Moore gave the Rascals the win.

    Tallahatchie put on a pitcher's showcase Monday in the opening night of the inaugural season of the BNA Bank Cotton states Baseball League. The Rascals swept the Tupelo Thunder 3-1 and 7-0 to start their season at 2-0.

    Eagle fans will have a familiar face on the sidelines in 2009, as Joey Baird returns to his alma mater to take the helm of West Union boys basketball.

    As officially announced by the school and the Union County School Board in their June 1 meeting, Baird will replace Kevin Williams, who is transferring to Ingomar to take over the Lady Falcons fast pitch softball program. When searching for a replacement, county superintendent Ken Basil found just what he wanted in his former player.

    Ingomar native Beyunka Sanders will have the opportunity to work toward her dream after being selected as a Tiger Dancer for Northeast Community College next school year.

    A 2009 graduate, Sanders was a Falcon cheerleader for four years, serving two years as captain. Dancing for many years, she credits her years in cheerleading for her success.
