New Albany’s baseball team has worked hard this past week, participating in the Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association for Better Baseball (NEMCBB) tournament at North Pontotoc High School.

 “Basically we play in the summer to get better for the spring,” John Ferrell said. “We only have 12 days to play with the team now during the summer, so we try to schedule as many double headers and tournaments as we could to get in as many games as we can with them.”

Every summer kids from across the county participate in summer league baseball, T-Ball and softball. At the New Albany Sportsplex, there is a special group that is not as widely known except by those involved.

The Top Notch T-Ball program for children with special needs has been a part of the Sportsplex for several years. Teaching equality for the children involved, volunteers work with the kids, as all feel strongly about giving these children the same advantage any other has.

For the past three days, thousands of major league baseball hopefuls have sat in front of their televisions waiting for the call and the hope to play at the next level. Late Wednesday morning, one Union Countian received that call and an opportunity to continue his baseball career.

Ingomar's Josh Hodges has long been praised as one of the best athletes in the county, with his 6'7 frame and 95 mile per hour fast ball etching his name among the elite at the high school level.

Pleasantly surprised and excited, two former Bulldogs will compete in Jackson this July in a Mississippi All-Star tennis tournament.

Friends make great tennis partners

Jacob Rowland and Karl David Capaning have both played tennis since the fifth grade, and have competed with and against one another for several years.
