  • Area teams prepare for 2009...

    The 2009 softball season started early Saturday morning, as West Union hosted their annual pre-season classic. This year, nine teams participated in the day-long event, each facing off twice in preparation for the start of the new season this week.

  • Lady Eagles pull away for...

    County rivals squared off for West Union’s season opener Tuesday night, as the Lady Eagles took on Ingomar.

    In a rematch of last year’s first round playoffs, where the Lady Falcons swept West Union, the line-up looked very different with Ingomar showcasing their youth.

    The Lady Falcons opened with the early 1-0 advantage after two errors by the Lady Eagles. Kandis Swan scored after a sacrifice fly by Shelly Grisham.

  • Lady Urchins fall short vs. Lady...

    East Union faced a tough opponent in their season opener, taking on the 4A North Pontotoc Lady Vikings. Using this game as a stepping stone, the Lady Urchins had a good showing, falling only 9-7, coming back late in the game.

    The Lady Urchins scored the first run of the game, as a single by Sunnie Knighton plated Chelsea Kuhn, who reached earlier on a single of her own.

  • Wildcats place in national...

    Summer travel teams have long helped to develop the skills of several of this area’s premiere talent. One AAU team in particular, the North Mississippi Wildcats, featured three standouts who helped the team to a sixth place finish nationally in the AAU Junior Boys Division II National Championships in Orlando, Florida.

  • ‘Dawgs run over Bears

    Bulldog fans had their first look at the 2009 squad last Friday night, as NAHS hosted their annual “Meet the Bulldogs” before a jamboree game versus Alcorn Central.

    The varsity ‘Dawgs, along with the junior high teams, varsity softball, cross country and band were all introduced, followed by exhibition the junior varsity and varsity exhibitions against the Bears.

    The JV team played a one quarter game, falling 2-0 on a safety with two minutes left in the game.

  • County football opens with first...

    Many Union Countians saw their dream come true Monday afternoon as the countywide football took the field for the first time. Around 90 kids were bussed to the New Albany Sportsplex, where the coaching staff spent the day teaching them basic warm-ups and fundamentals as a first step in fielding a team this season.

  • Reaching the next level

    A proven leader, a leader on the rise and a new face trying to make his mark on the team. There are many different stories on New Albany’s football squad this year, but all share the same goal of seeing the Bulldogs take their game to the next level in 2009.

    NAHS took the field last week for their fall camp and are preparing for their jamboree match-up versus Alcorn Central this Friday night. Walking around practice last Thursday, the ‘Dawgs were very upbeat and are ready to start the new season.

  • Local athlete turns teacher

    What do you get when you take two traditional sports and combine them? For one New Albany resident, you have a sport quickly generating interest, not only in Union County, but the Deep South.

    Kayla Pablic has long had a love for horses. While living in Pennsylvania as a young child, Pablic joined the local Pony Club with one of her friends. It was in this club that she learned of a sport, a discipline that would soon become her passion.

  • Bulldogs open 2009 football...

    Football is back in New Albany, as the Bulldogs took the field Monday for their first official practice of the 2009 season. With much excitement surrounded around this season, head coach Ron Price  has a team coming off one of the strongest offseason workouts he has seen since joining the staff at NAHS.

  • Batter up with New Albany Lady...

    A new face will grace the presence of the New Albany softball team this year. With her athletic 5’4 build and a fierce swing that scares even the best pitchers, she will be a force to be reckoned with this season, and she made her first appearance at Tuesday night’s workout at the high school.

    Actually this is all a lie, it’s just me, and I am pretty sure the only thing the team was scared of was me possibly hurting myself.
