  • Special teams spark NAHS squad

The ‘Dawgs are looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss on the road as they return home to host Baldwyn this week.

Losing 26-7 to the Bearcats in 2008, head coach Ron Price knows Baldwyn will field another stout defense, which gave the Bulldogs all sorts of problems last season.

  • Smithville holds on to win over...

The Lady Seminoles were able to hold off a late rally by Ingomar to pick up the divisional win, 5-3 Tuesday.

Smithville built a 5-0 lead through 3.5 innings of play before Ingomar posted their first run in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Falcons added on two more runs in the sixth  to make the game interesting, but the Lady ‘Noles, last year’s north half champions stepped up on defense to take the win.

  • West Union's double threat

They may look sweet, but two of the toughest girls in the county can be found at West Union. Claire and Carley Wilkerson are fierce competitors who are involved in a lot more than just sports.

  • Bulldogs get big win over Ripley

Bulldog fans had plenty to celebrate Friday night as New Albany had a sweet taste of victory over their rival, Ripley. Another impressive offensive effort helped to get the 'Dawgs back in the game after falling 14-0 early.

“Defense came out and kind of put is in a bind. We felt like Ripley kept knocking us down, but the character of our team is that you might keep knocking us down, but you're not going to knock us out, and they never could knock us out,” NAHS head coach Ron Price said.

  • ‘Dawgs O-line stepping...

Continuing their season of redemption, the ‘Dawgs will look for payback against Corinth this Friday on  the road. • Late rally lifts Lady Eagles...

The last three outs may be the hardest to get. For the Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night, they saw their three-run lead against West Union disappear with one out remaining for the win, as the Lady Eagles edged NAHS in the 5-4 thriller.

“In that last inning, they got the big hits when they needed them,” NAHS head coach Michael Kelly said. “We played with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of intensity with a good defensive ball game. We jumped out early on them, and we’ve got to work on finding our bats late in the game.”

  • 'Dawgs ready for rival...

New Albany will look to carry momentum from last week’s impressive performance, as they will be on the road facing their biggest rival in Ripley.

2008 featured the running game for both teams, and with more weapons on the Bulldogs’ side this season, the Tigers will have a tough task of picking which one to try stopping. Ripley has won the last two meetings, including last season’s 27-14 affair at Kitchens’ Field, and the Tigers return many starters in 2009.

A different Lady Eagles’ team took the field in the Nettleton Tournament, as they avenged a preseason loss by handing the Lady Tigers’ their first loss of the season last Saturday.

Kate Webb and Samantha Mayo opened with hits, as Mayo’s double scored Webb. Shelly Grisham followed with the first of two Ingomar homeruns in the game.

Santana Taylor and Anna McCutchen had back-to-back RBI doubles, making it 7-0 before Webb’s three run shot extended the lead to double digits.
