  • Corrected scores from Myrtle/EU...

    Myrtle cross country coach Chris Greer released the revised results for varsity boys, as well as the junior varsity boys results from the October 3 Myrtle/East Union Challenge, held at the New Albany Sportsplex.

    East Union and Myrtle finished fifth and sixth respectively in the junior varsity division. Dontrell Latifimore and Kyle Hampton were top 10 finishers for the Urchins, as Latifimore finished fourth and Hampton fifth.

    Ingomar’s Sam Cobb came in 16th, followed by teammates Bonner Powell (21), Jonathan Sweatt (23) and Casie Rorie (25).

  • Lady Eagles top Ingomar

    West Union faced a young Ingomar squad, but the Lady Falcons put up a fight in the first round of the 1A state playoffs. The Lady Eagles eventually pulled away to sweep the series, winning 5-1 and 17-0 Tuesday night.

    The county rivals traded runs in the first inning of game one, with Shelly Grisham bringing in Kate Webb, who opened the game with a leadoff double. West Union returned the favor in the bottom portion of the inning, as a sacrifice fly out by Rachel Baker brought home Kimberly Jumper, tying the game.

  • Pontotoc defeats NAHS

    Two different New Albany squads took the field against Pontotoc last Friday night.

    The first half saw dominance by the Bulldogs, as their defensive effort produced three turnovers and three sacks, while scoring both of their touchdowns off of Warrior turnovers to take a 14-3 lead to the half. After halftime, the game took a total 360, as Pontotoc stunned the 'Dawgs, scoring 28 unanswered to take the 31-14 win.

  • Lady Urchins advance in 2A play

    East Union continues their quest in the 2A playoffs after winning on the road at Hollandale-Simmons Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Urchins traveled to the Delta as the two seed from their division and struggled in their first outing, falling 4-2. Sunnie Knighton was the lone bright spot for East Union with a home run, but head coach Kelly Robbins said her team wasn’t prepared when they stepped off the bus for game one.

    “It took us a little while to get warmed up, and once they were use to the different atmosphere, they warmed up and started playing like a team.”

  • NAHS faces tough road battle

    Same story, new year. New Albany will travel to Itawamba this Friday to take on the Indians, who are the top ranked team in 4A. NAHS will be looking for their first divisional win, and it will be a tough test against the undefeated Indians.

  • 'Dawgs seek revenge

    New Albany still has a bitter taste in their mouth, as they are looking for revenge hosting Pontotoc this Friday in their divisional opener. The ‘Dawgs lost a hard fought battle on the road in 2008, losing 21-20 in two overtimes, only inches away from the win and possible playoff spot. With Homecoming festivities also taking place, the Bulldogs are prepared to enter their first division game.

  • County has strong showing in...

    Myrtle and West Union proved why they’re among the elite in cross county, as both led an impressive showing by Union County in the annual Myrtle/East Union Challenge at the New Albany Sportsplex last Saturday.

    Aimee Walker led the Lady Hawks to a second place finish fourth overall with a time of 16:18.00 in the 4K run.

    Teammate Halle Knowles followed in sixth with a time of 16:41.00, while Samantha Shettles also placed in the top 20.

  • County football picks up...

    Union County’s football team continues to make history as they picked up their first win in a 28-12 affair at Falkner last Thursday night.

    The county team held a 6-0 advantage at the half, and opened up their scoring attack in the second half in the winning effort.

  • New Albany slays dragons in Delta

    Kareem Brown was fired up in the fourth quarter, leading New Albany to the 13-8 win over M.S. Palmer Friday night. The junior made an effort for a tackle during an interception return for a touchdown by the Dragons in the fourth quarter, giving Palmer the 8-7 edge. On the Bulldogs’ next offensive drive, Brown answered with a 25-yard run to give NAHS their fourth win of the season.

  • WU takes division, playoffs set...

    Myrtle and West Union have become accustomed to playing for the top seed out of their division, and this year was no different as the two teams met Wednesday with the division title on the line.
