  • Lady Urchins advance in 2A play

    East Union continues their quest in the 2A playoffs after winning on the road at Hollandale-Simmons Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Urchins traveled to the Delta as the two seed from their division and struggled in their first outing, falling 4-2. Sunnie Knighton was the lone bright spot for East Union with a home run, but head coach Kelly Robbins said her team wasn’t prepared when they stepped off the bus for game one.

    “It took us a little while to get warmed up, and once they were use to the different atmosphere, they warmed up and started playing like a team.”

  • NAHS faces tough road battle

    Same story, new year. New Albany will travel to Itawamba this Friday to take on the Indians, who are the top ranked team in 4A. NAHS will be looking for their first divisional win, and it will be a tough test against the undefeated Indians.

  • 'Dawgs seek revenge

    New Albany still has a bitter taste in their mouth, as they are looking for revenge hosting Pontotoc this Friday in their divisional opener. The ‘Dawgs lost a hard fought battle on the road in 2008, losing 21-20 in two overtimes, only inches away from the win and possible playoff spot. With Homecoming festivities also taking place, the Bulldogs are prepared to enter their first division game.

  • County has strong showing in...

    Myrtle and West Union proved why they’re among the elite in cross county, as both led an impressive showing by Union County in the annual Myrtle/East Union Challenge at the New Albany Sportsplex last Saturday.

    Aimee Walker led the Lady Hawks to a second place finish fourth overall with a time of 16:18.00 in the 4K run.

    Teammate Halle Knowles followed in sixth with a time of 16:41.00, while Samantha Shettles also placed in the top 20.

  • County football picks up...

    Union County’s football team continues to make history as they picked up their first win in a 28-12 affair at Falkner last Thursday night.

    The county team held a 6-0 advantage at the half, and opened up their scoring attack in the second half in the winning effort.

  • New Albany slays dragons in Delta

    Kareem Brown was fired up in the fourth quarter, leading New Albany to the 13-8 win over M.S. Palmer Friday night. The junior made an effort for a tackle during an interception return for a touchdown by the Dragons in the fourth quarter, giving Palmer the 8-7 edge. On the Bulldogs’ next offensive drive, Brown answered with a 25-yard run to give NAHS their fourth win of the season.

    Myrtle and West Union have become accustomed to playing for the top seed out of their division, and this year was no different as the two teams met Wednesday with the division title on the line.

  • Lady Eagles roll over EU,...

    West Union had no rust after not playing games the last two weeks. With all of the recent rains, the Lady Eagles are trying to make up several missed games this week, starting with a three-game slate Tuesday night.

    Opening with a rematch from the Union County Tournament, West Union had their revenge over East Union, shutting out the Lady Urchins 10-0 in five innings.

  • UC football hits the field at...

    Fans gathered at H.W. Byers on Tuesday to watch a historical event, as Union County fielded their first football team in their inaugural game versus the Lions.

    Union County’s squad competed in two games, a seventh and eighth grade junior high contest followed by a ninth grade junior varsity game. Byers showed experience, as this is the second year of their program, but the UC squad displayed improvement, as they have only practiced for about four weeks.

  • McCullough lifts Lady Urchins on...

    Amy McCullough has knocked several homeruns for the Lady Urchins this season, but none bigger than her three-run shot Monday, as East Union shutout Hickory Flat 9-0.

    McCullough is one of six seniors that were honored after the game, and her homerun belted out of the park in the sixth gave the Lady Urchins their final three runs of the game.
