  • Fitts carries family legacy to...

    The Fitts’ family roots run deep in Union County, and one of their own is now a commitment to John Cohen’s Mississippi State squad.

    Though not familiar to the area, Trevor Fitts has made a name for himself in Alabama, as he is a junior at Pelham High School. The 6-foot-2 pitcher visited MSU earlier this season when the Bulldogs played LSU in football, and it was then that he knew he would follow his family footsteps, which started here in Union County.

  • NAHS opens soccer season against...

    The Fernandez’s helped lift the Bulldogs to a season opening win over Saltillo Monday night, as Gabriel and Edgar Fernandez scored all three of New Albany’s goals in the 3-0 victory.

    Despite the Bulldogs having 10 shots on goal in the first half, they were only able to convert one score, as Gabriel took an assist from Anthony Fernandez to give New Albany the 1-0 advantage at the half.

  • Myrtle splits with Marshall...

    Myrtle picked up back to back wins this week, defeating Tupelo Christian Monday and Marshall Academy Tuesday night.

    Only ahead 18-13 after the first, Jimel Judon had five points in the second quarter, leading the Hawks (2-0) on an 11-1 run going into halftime, giving them the 36-27 lead.

    Myrtle extended their lead after the half, as the Hawks defense held the Patriots to only nine third quarter points.

  • "Dawgs end year at Noxubee

    New Albany saw their season come to an end Friday night in a hard fought effort against Noxubee County. The Bulldogs gave the defending state champions a battle after falling behind early.

    Noxubee’s Vincent Sanders gave the Tigers the early momentum as he returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Noxubee would score only 30 seconds later as the Bulldogs had a fumble on their first drive that led to a Tiger score and a 15-0 advantage.

  • ‘Dawgs pick up win at...

    New Albany picked up a 73-57 win to open the 2009-2010 season, as they defeated Corinth in the Carlock Toyota Tipoff Classic in Tupelo.

    The Bulldogs opened the game on a 9-0 run, led by Malcolm Spears. Spears would have 12 points in the opening frame, as New Albany took the 21-9 lead.

    Corinth would outscore the ‘Dawgs 16-11 in the second to cut the deficit to single digits at the half, but led by Spears’ 26 points, New Albany picked up the season opening win.

  • Ingomar, Hickory Flat split...

    Ingomar used their strength down low to top the Rebels, 65-57 Saturday night. With the help of Zach Carnell, the senior had 14 points for the Falcons and could have done more damage if not for foul trouble.

    Hickory Flat opened with the 17-15 advantage, as Henry Bell had a three pointer at the buzzard to lift the Rebs at the end of the quarter. Ingomar responded with a 24-point second quarter, led by Purvis’ eight points and a three by Tyler Jarvis.

  • NAHS heading to 4A playoffs

    New Albany had two goals for the 2009 season, to have a winning record and make the playoffs. The Bulldogs accomplished both last Thursday night, as they shutout Tishomingo County 55-0.

    After the ‘Dawgs had an embarrassing experience against the Braves in 2008, they rebounded to take the final playoff spot in division 1-4A.

    NAHS jumped on the board midway through the first, as Tyler Basil connected with Taylor Goode, followed by a Kareem Brown rushing score to give the Bulldogs the 13-0 advantage after the first.

  • Playoff bound in Tiger land

    New Albany has a chance to do something special Friday night when they travel to Noxubee County for the first round of the 4A state playoffs. Taking on the defending state champions, the Bulldogs will face a tenacious Tiger defense that has shut out eight of their 10 opponents this season and have only given up 32 total points.

    Momentum is on the side of the Bulldogs in 2009, as they are poised at a potential return to the playoffs.

    After losing several seniors from last year’s squad, thoughts of rebuilding are not the minds of the ‘Dawgs despite there being 10 new starters.

  • Youth brings talent to Lady...

    Fresh faces grace the Lady Bulldogs squad this season,as they boast several new players in 2009.

    NAHS coach Les Huntington returns six starters from last year’s team that was only one game shy of making the playoffs. Among them are Randi Stephens, Kellie Skinner and Callie Creekmore, along with Ann Maxwell, the lone member remaining from New Albany’s charter team seven years ago.
