    If I got a nickel for every time I’ve heard that over the last three weeks, I could probably retire. Okay, maybe not, but it would be close.
    The second annual Student Section Challenge came to an end on Tuesday, and I’m proud to report that every school had a strong showing this year.
    Which made this incredibly difficult for me to choose a winner.

  • Lady Eagles pick up road win at...

    West Union fought off a tough Lady Hawk squad on Tuesday, picking up a 48-34 win on the road.
    The Lady Eagles went ahead 11-5 early in the game on a 7-0 run, with four points from Gracen Conlee. Meshay Cox gave Myrtle its first lead at 13-12.
    Myrtle led at the half, 16-14, and the two teams traded the lead throughout the third quarter before Marley Long gave West Union its final lead.

  • A special homecoming

    It started as suggestion; an idea of how Hickory Flat could celebrate its homecoming this year. The end result brought members of the school’s first state championship team back to the school, commemorating the 30-year anniversary of the event.

  • West Union bowling takes on East...

    West Union bowling competed against West Webster on Monday with the outcome yet to be determined.

  • Baldwyn takes two over East Union

    East Union opened division play last Friday, suffering two tough home losses to Baldwyn.
    Ayana Ragin scored 27 points, 21 in the first half, leading the Lady Bearcats to a 67-29 win over the Lady Urchins.
    With the game tied at four early on, Baldwyn went on an 11-0 run to lead 15-4. The Lady Bearcats had another big run in the second quarter, opening with the first nine points scored to lead 24-5.
    Ashley Leach scored 10 points to lead the Lady Urchins at the break, and East Union went 8-for-13 from the free throw line, making it  36-16 at the half.

  • New Albany drops home games vs....

    The weekend was bittersweet for the Lady Bulldogs; 6-1 winners over Pontotoc on Friday before suffering a 2-0 loss at home to Lewisburg on Saturday.

  • Hickory Flat to honor first...

    Everyone around here knows and talks about New Albany’s three-peat in boys’ basketball during the 1980s. When I researched the county tournament last summer, I read about not only this, but I briefly touched on Hickory Flat, which saw a lot of success itself during this decade.
    As part of this year’s homecoming festivities at Hickory Flat, the Rebels are honoring the school’s first state championship, which happened 30 years ago in March of 1983.
