Baldwyn has forced game three for the 2A north half championship, holding on for a 2-1 over East Union.

Twice postponed due the weather, both teams took the field on Sunday, and it was a showdown between pitchers Dustin Kirk and Cody Bo Dillard.

Reggie Richey registered the first hit for either team in the second inning, and but the Urchins were on the board first in the fourth inning. With two outs, Tray Davis hit a double and was plated by Tyler Hutcheston to put East Union up 1-0.

Ridgeland-- Errors hurt West Union in game one of the 1A state championships on Friday, as Nanih Waiya took a 1-0 series lead after a 15-6 win.

After the Lady Eagles took an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, the Lady Warriors worked its way back into the game, scoring its first run in the second inning and tying the game on a three-run home run by Ryan Holdiness in the third.

Nanih Waiya sent 11 players to the plate in the fourth, scoring seven runs off five hits and three West Union errors.

There were more than enough setbacks before New Albany could finally hit the courts in defense of its state title in 4A tennis. Recent rains reeked havoc on the postseason, but on Tuesday, almost two weeks after the originally scheduled state title match against St. Stanislaus, the Bulldogs took care of business, defeating the Rock-a-Chaws five games to one, winning its second consecutive state title; the third title in four years.

With their backs against the wall and facing elimination, the Urchins’ offense delivered in back-to-back games, winning its playoff series with Hatley and advancing to the north half championship.

Last Thursday, the Urchins were held to only three hits, as Russ Johnson earned the win on the mound, 3-0. In that game, the Tigers would score on back-to-back RBI singles in the first and later in the fourth inning.
