  • Where are They Now?- Grant Goolsby

    When basketball season hits, there is only one place Grant Goolsby sees himself, and that’s on the sideline at the games.
    The 2008 Myrtle graduate and former Northeast standout is taking advantage of a rare opportunity for someone of his age. Last season, he was offered a volunteer assistant position on Drew Tyler’s staff at Oxford High School and hopes to be added on as a full time assistant for next season. The experience is crucial for Goolsby, who has a year remaining for his undergraduate studies at Ole Miss.

  • Where are They Now?- Johnny Payton

    Johnny Payton has seen a lot of great basketball over the years, and even played some himself during his days at New Albany.
    As a member of the 1985 undefeated state champion Bulldog squad, Payton knows what it takes to be successful in the game and now spends time encouraging some of the best up and coming athletes in the county.
    “It’s great to see the athletes that have come through here over time. I’ve always said that a lot of great athletes go unnoticed in this area,” he said.

  • Where are They Now?- Barry Kidd

    One thing that will never change in Union County is the competitiveness and excitement surrounding basketball. Former players, such as Barry Kidd, have the opportunity to not only reflect on their careers, but watch as their children succeed at the same school.
    Kidd’s prolific career at Ingomar was capped with state and grand slam championships in 1978. After playing for the Falcons, he held a brief stint at Northeast, where his career eventually ended.

  • Where are They Now?- Lisa Billingsley-Wigginton

    A lot has changed since Lisa Billingsley-Wigginton’s days on the basketball court. The former Lady Urchin has accomplished a lot since her days at East Union, including a two-year stint playing ball at Mississippi State. Moving from Jackson to Memphis, Wigginton now calls Tupelo home and has done so for the last 18 years.

  • Where are They Now?- Mallory Sanford Horn

    Mallory Sanford Horn would agree that she has been blessed when it comes to her job.
    After graduating from New Albany in 2002, the former multi-state champion in softball and basketball continued her successful softball career at Northeast Community College before completing her undergraduate studies at Ole Miss. Since, Horn has returned home, working in the New Albany School District and couldn’t be happier.

  • Where are They Now?- Chase Porch

    A former East Union standout is enjoying his chance to continue playing baseball after boasting  successful high school and collegiate careers.
    Competing last season for the Pensacola Pelicans of the American Association of Independent  Professional Baseball, Chase Porch is now in Chicago, playing for the Windy City ThunderBolts of the Frontier League Professional Baseball league.

  • Keeping up the support for county football

    Union County football is a story I have enjoyed watching develop over my time in this area, and the program has been in the spotlight this past month as the debate has started on the team’s future.
    Back in April, I was approached with a detailed plan discussing the five-year plan of the program, one which broke down what would happen if the team stayed as it currently is, county wide, and another that showed what would happen if it became solely East Union’s team.
