With all the focus turning toward basketball, I’m pleased to announce plans for this year’s student section challenge, which will take place after Thanksgiving break.
I announced the games chosen over Twitter last week, but for those of you who are not big into social media, I’ll lay out the ground rules for this year’s competition.

Robby Hale made an impact on so many in the community, and that was evident over the weekend during a tournament named in his honor.
The inaugural Robby Hale “Make a Difference” tournament was held last Saturday at Oaks Country Club and at the tennis courts at BNA Bank Park. The organizers hoped to draw in a good amount of money and form a scholarship in Hale’s honor to be given to a deserving student in Union County.

The slow pitch season has officially ended, and it was an exciting postseason for each of our schools that participated.
Last weekend definitely presented a challenge for me, as I had the task of hitting up four schools in one day, trying to cover as much as possible for each team; that after hanging out at the county cross country championships earlier that day.
Overall, I enjoyed the day and had the chance to watch some great games, and I went into Tuesday’s 1A north half title series expecting the same excitement.

Tuesday marks the beginning of the postseason for slow pitch softball. Four of the five Union County teams are still in the hunt for a state title; two will open the playoffs at home.
West Union and East Union enter as division champions for their respective regions. The Lady Eagles will take on Blue Mountain, and the Lady Urchins have yet to find out its first round opponent.
