  • Amory hands Bulldogs second loss of the season

Two plays made the difference for the Bulldogs in a nine-point swing that gave Amory the 30-21 win on Friday.

“That’s the difference in the ball game; they had two big plays, we had none and we lose by nine points,” New Albany Head Coach Ron Price said. “Good teams learn to win big games like this, and this was a big 4A game and test for both teams. Amory came through tonight and made the plays when they needed to, and we were just a step slow.”

New Albany will be on the road once more this week, traveling to Amory in a big 4A showdown.

  • Lady Bulldogs continue to learn and grow in volleyball

New Albany dropped its second volleyball match to Pontotoc in a week, but the morale is high and the Lady Bulldogs are learning as they go throughout this first season.

“The rally play has gotten a lot better just since the last game,” NAHS head coach Lashay Ashford said. “We’re still giving up too many points at one time, so we’ve got to get better with that, but we’re talking more, so that’s great.”

  • Newsome leads Bulldogs over Pontotoc

Boston Newsome continues to be the driving force for the Bulldogs’ offense, and it was his three touchdowns that put New Albany back in the win column, defeating Pontotoc, 21-14.

The Bulldogs trailed 14-7 entering the fourth quarter after Reid Tackett had an interception return for a touchdown for Pontotoc. Newsome would score from two-yards out to tie the game, and after holding Pontotoc on its ensuing drive, marched down the field once more for the senior’s third score with nine seconds remaining.

  • New Albany, East Union head on the road

New Albany and East Union are preparing for big games and wet weather this weekend, as both teams are on the road; the Bulldogs at Pontotoc and the Urchins at Biggersville.
The Bulldogs have worked this week after a tough overtime loss to Itawamba, and the focus turns to avenging last year’s home loss to the Warriors.

  • Lady Bulldogs score late to top Corinth

Even illness couldn’t stop one Lady Bulldog senior from bringing in the game-winning run. Having sat out until the final inning, Tamariaa Ivy stepped to the plate with bases loaded, one out, and with two strikes against her, hit the ball out to left field, bringing in the deciding run, giving New Albany the 10-9 win against Corinth on Monday.

  • Area teams compete in local softball tournament

Weekend rain could not spoil last Saturday’s Robertson’s Sportswear Tournament at BNA Bank Park. The day-long event featured each of Union County’s teams against some of the best competition in Northeast Mississippi.
