    The Bulldogs were looking for a big win, and came through with a 14-7 victory over Senatobia to open division play.

    Entering the game at 2-4 and on a three-game losing streak, New Albany put up a big defensive effort to get the win.

    New Albany and East Union will both be at home this week, and for the Bulldogs, it is the start of division play.

  • Joslin leads Lady Bulldogs on senior night

    Angel Joslin helped the Lady Bulldogs clinch a playoff spot, showing out on her senior night with three hits and six RBI in New Albany’s 19-0 win over Shannon last Thursday.
    “They’re playing good, and hopefully we’re peaking at the right time,” New Albany coach Shane Sanderson said. “We hit the ball hard tonight and made few errors, so that usually translates to a win. I’m excited about that, and we’re going to take the weekend off and get healthy and ready for next week.”

  • Cleveland tops Bulldogs in final non-division game

    New Albany fought hard but fell short in its final non-division game and now look ahead to division play beginning next week.

    Down 14-0 in the second quarter, sophomore Jimmy Baldon intercepted Cleveland’s Vaughnte Dorsey, running in for the 39-yard touchdown to put the Bulldogs on the board. After holding the Wildcats on its ensuing possession, Spencer Day found J.T. Moore for the 28-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14.

  • Taking the lead on offense

    New Albany and East Union have been successful running the ball so far this year, and it is becuase of two seniors, who hope to help their respective teams snap a two-game losing streak this week.

  • Lady Bulldogs hold annual softball tournament

    New Albany was tested by some of the area’s best teams and look ahead to what they can do in the remainder of their division schedule.

    Hosting the New Albany Invitational at BNA Bank Park on Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs took on Belmont, Alcorn Central and Tupelo, finishing with a win in its first game and falling to the Lady Bears and Lady Wave.

  • Bulldogs fall short at home

    It was a play the Bulldogs have turned to in the past, and it almost made the difference against Corinth on Friday.

    Down 21-13 with six seconds remaining, Spencer Day threw to Chandler Nail, who then lateraled to Boston Newsome, and the senior ran in for the touchdown with no time remaining. Needing the two-point conversion to send the game to overtime, Newsome failed to reach the end zone one more time, giving Corinth the 21-19 win at Kitchens’ Field.

  • Foster competes in Sunbelt Classic

    This fall, many Union County baseball players will take the field in the Cotton States Fall League, but one is coming off of a successful summer participating in the 16th annual Junior Sunbelt Classic.

  • Hoping to bounce back

    New Albany and East Union are coming off of losses last week and hope to rebound with the Bulldogs hosting Corinth and the Urchins traveling to Ripley on Friday.
    East Union dropped a 41-6 decision against Mantachie and face the 2-2 Tigers who also lost last week, 34-27 to Pontotoc.

  • Ingomar wins 2012 UCT

    It came down to an extra-inning affair against division rivals that ultimately decided the champion of this year’s Union County slow pitch tournament.

    Having lost to West Union early last week, Ingomar again was in a close game with the Lady Eagles, which went to extra innings and fell on the shoulders of one of the Lady Falcons’ seniors.

    Tied with two outs and a runner on third and two strikes against her, Reid Little had the game-winning hit for Ingomar, plating Heather Dillard to give the Lady Falcons the 9-8 win over the Lady Eagles.
