  • New Albany football prepares for playoffs

    New Albany head coach Ron Price has emphasized to his team just how important it is that they are able to host a playoff game for the third year in a row.

  • Myrtle girls, West Union boys win cross country division titles

    Myrtle girls and West Union boys won division titles in cross country last Saturday, competing at Tupelo Christian Prep in Belden.
    Hunter Jennings led the pack of Eagle runners that took the top seven spots in the Region 2-1A meet. Jennings finished with a time of 19:06 and was followed by Austin Kiddy, Randy Long, Eli Basil, Brandon Crane, Andrew Childers and Adam Grubbs. Lavon Cook was the top finisher for Myrtle in eighth place. The Eagles won the division title over Myrtle.

  • New Albany represented at all-star game

    New Albany was well represented last weekend in the Mississippi Association of Coaches slow pitch all-star game in Newton. Seniors Shannon Goode and Mallory Beaty were among the 12 chosen from North Mississippi for the 4A/5A/6A game, along with coaches Shane Sanderson and Tom Zahller.

  • Bulldogs hold on for win at Lewisburg

    New Albany closed the regular season with a win at Lewisburg on Friday, and the scoring came on two big passing plays, as the Bulldogs defeated the Patriots, 14-13.

    The Bulldogs are accustomed to what running back Boston Newsome can do on the ground, but it was the senior’s arm and ability to find an open Spencer Day that put the first points on the board in the opening quarter.

  • Bulldogs fired up for Lewisburg

    The Bulldogs enter the final regular season game tonight, playing at Lewisburg.
    After capturing its second division title in three years, the Bulldogs now face the 7-3 Patriots, who need a win to secure a playoff spot.

  • Bulldogs defeat Rosa Fort, win division title

    The Bulldogs won its fourth straight game on Friday, overcoming an early 2-4 record this season to win the Division 2-4A championship, defeating Rosa Fort, 35-14.

  • Players of the Week: Callie Baggett and the New Albany football defense

    There were plenty of exciting match-ups last week, and contributing the most to their respective teams are the New Albany football defense and West Union’s Callie Baggett, the Gazette Players of the Week.
    Baggett had four hits, nine RBI with an inside the park grand slam, leading the Lady Eagles to a second round sweep of Jumpertown last Saturday.

  • Newsome named to All-Star team

    Boston Newsome has made several personal goals for himself as an athlete, and achieved one of those on Wednesday, as he was named to the Bernard Blackwell North vs. South All-Star game.

  • Myrtle girls, East Union boys win Union County XC championship

    Youth have stepped up for this year’s top county cross country teams. Competing in the Union County championships on Saturday at East Union, Myrtle girls and East Union boys took home top honors in the varsity races.

    For the Lady Hawks, this was the best race of the year, by far, according to their coach, Chris Greer. Led by Kitana High, who was the overall top female runner with a time of 16:33, the Lady Hawks had seven runners finish in the top 15.

  • New Albany falls short in three-game series with Houston

    New Albany coach Shane Sanderson assured his team a 21-inning battle in its playoff series with Houston on Saturday. Falling 5-3 in the first game, the Lady Bulldogs came back for a 7-3 game two win before falling to the Lady Hilltoppers, 6-5, in the deciding third game.

    Houston built a 4-0 lead in the first game and held on for the two-run win. After talking things over with his team, Sanderson watched as the Lady Bulldogs, led by a trio of batters with two hits each, tie the series.
