  • MHSAA announces reclassification for area schools

    The Mississippi High School Activities Association released its reclassification grid for the next two school years, and the new list includes a division for East Union football.

    After playing as an independent in 2012, the Urchins will join Region 1-2A for football, which is the division it plays in for other sports. East Union is in this division with Baldwyn, Hatley, Mantachie, New Site and Walnut. Urchins head coach Scott Duley said his program is excited to make the next step in building a football tradition at East Union.

    Ingomar gave the Lady Bulldogs all they could handle in a Tuesday night showdown that was drastically different from last week’s game at Ingomar.

  • New Albany earns road sweep at Ingomar

    It wasn’t pretty, but the Bulldogs found a way to win. Down by double digits on the road at Ingomar, New Albany worked its way back in for the 68-64 overtime win over the Falcons on Monday.

  • Sixteen Bulldogs named to All-Division

    New Albany ended the 2012 season with its fourth consecutive playoff appearance as well as finishing division play undefeated. For their efforts during the 8-5 campaign, 16 Bulldogs were named to the Region 2-4A All-Division team, as selected by the coaches last week.

  • Pontotoc edges New Albany soccer

    Pontotoc gained an early lead on the Lady Bulldogs, and despite tying the game in the second half, New Albany dropped the 5-4 decision on Saturday.

  • Montgomery leads Hawks in win over New Albany

    Robert Montgomery put the Hawks on his back, carrying his team to an 82-68 win over New Albany on Thursday.

    Myrtle jumped to a quick 8-2 lead, but the Bulldogs worked their way back in, as Eric Chaney tied the game at 10 and Devon Berry put the ‘Dawgs up 12-10. Montomery pulled the Hawks within two at the end of the first before scoring 21 of Myrtle’s 23 second quarter points, including three straight three-point plays in the frame. The senior put the Hawks up 23-21, and Myrtle led 35-33 at the half.

  • New Albany's season ends against Louisville

    New Albany’s season came to an end on Friday, but the Bulldogs fought hard throughout the 38-13 loss to Louisville.

    The Bulldogs carried the momentum early on, as O.J. Hardin had an interception on Louisville’s opening drive. It only took one play for Spencer Day to find Austin Howard for the 20-yard touchdown, giving New Albany the early 7-0 advantage.

  • Lady Bulldogs named to All-Division team

    New Albany named five to the All-Division team for slow pitch softball, voted by the coaches and announced this week.
    Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs is junior Lauren Cavender, who earned Defensive Most Valuable Player honors for her pitching performance.
    Also earning All-Division honors for the Lady Bulldogs are Mallory Beaty, Shaneka Cullins, Megan Dye and Kayla Pavlick. Senior Shannon Goode earned honorable mention honors.

  • Bulldogs prepare for round two

    Louisville has a great tradition in football, one that coach Ron Price and his Bulldogs hope to build here in New Albany. Friday, the Bulldogs will take on the Wildcats in the second round of the 4A playoffs and hope to make another step toward a state title.
    “We’ve tried to stress to our kids the tradition Louisville has,” Price said. “They’ve won seven state championships, and it’s important to them to be successful in the playoffs.”

  • New Albany advances to second round with win over Gentry

    Boston Newsome accomplished two goals on Friday night; breaking New Albany's single season rushing record and more importantly, helping his team advance to the second round of the 4A state playoffs.

    Behind the senior’s four touchdowns, the Bulldogs easily put away Indianola Gentry, 34-0, in the first round.
