  • New Albany cheerleading adopts squad changes

Creating a more competitive squad and reaching their ultimate goal of UCA Nationals paved the way for changes to the New Albany cheerleading squad starting next school year.

Several New Albany athletes were named to the Region 1-4A All-Division team, as announced by coaches last week.

  • Alcorn Central rallies over Lady Bulldogs

Mallory Beaty had a three-run shot in the opening inning of the Lady Bulldogs’ contest against Alcorn Central, but New Albany could not hold on, falling 9-6 to the Lady Bears on Saturday.

Beaty’s home run was the third hit in as many batters, scoring Brooke Sides and Ellen Tarrant, who each had singles to start the inning. New Albany would go ahead 4-0 off an error in the third inning, but Alcorn Central answered with four runs in the top of the fourth, three coming in of a base-clearing triple by Whitney Hardwick.

  • Bulldogs win Saturday contests

New Albany bounced back from a disappointing Friday night loss to Tupelo, defeating Hernando and West Union on Saturday.

In the ‘Dawgs game against the Tigers, Josh Creekmore and Riley Alef each had two hits in the 3-2 win. In the third inning with runners on second and third, Andrew Ballard brought in the Bulldogs’ first run to tie the game at one and New Albany scored twice in the fifth to take the lead.

  • Mission Accomplished

The setting is the 2010 4A State Championship, where New Albany, the state’s top team and undefeated North Half Champion, falls to Raymond; the team’s only loss of the season. From that moment on, there was only one goal on the minds of the Lady Bulldogs, particularly the eight girls who would be seniors: to make it back to Jackson and finish the job.

  • State Champions!

Three years have led to this moment. As the seconds counted down, New Albany began to celebrate the championship they have coveted for so long, but fell short at winning. In the end, there were only tears of joy as the careers of eight seniors ended and the Lady Bulldogs were finally able to call themselves State Champions.

  • State title on the line for Lady Bulldogs

It is the last go-around for New Albany and eight seniors, and they are taking nothing for granted.
