New Albany Bulldogs

  • Bulldogs fall in home opener

In the final two minutes of a close game, New Albany came out of a timeout and attempted a fourth down play in the red zone that could have given them a tremendous boost against one of their biggest rivals. As the ball went from Spencer Day and slipped through the hands of Riley Alef, it was that play that described the Bulldogs’ entire night, as they suffered a 20-6 setback to Pontotoc.

  • 'Dawgs' defense stifles Itawamba

Defense was once again the staple for the Bulldogs, as they improved to 2-0 on the year, defeating Itawamba, 20-7, on Friday.

“Coach tells us defense wins championships, offense puts people in the stands,” senior linebacker Riley Alef said. “The score says it pretty much, and as long as they keep from scoring, they can’t win.”

  • Bulldogs drop scrimmage at Kossuth

New Albany traveled for a preseason scrimmage, evaluating this year’s team before their season opener next week.

Several mistakes plagued the Bulldogs in the 13-6 loss to Kossuth, particularly on offense, as they were close to scoring in the first half, but a bad snap followed by a delay of game penalty caused a major setback after a long pass play from Spencer Day to Josh Hardin placed New Albany in the red zone.
