  • Bulldogs suffer setback to Cleveland

In the final test before the start of division play, New Albany suffered a 31-13 loss to Cleveland, committing an uncharacteristic eight turnovers.

“Coming into tonight, we really wanted to do things well, clean things up, but I feel like we took three steps back,” NAHS coach Ron Price said. “We did a good job of wrapping up defensively, but offensively, we moved the ball well and put ourselves in good position, then we turned the ball over.”

  • Extra inning win gives New Albany division title

A pregame promise turned out to be the best decision for the Lady Bulldogs in their division showdown at North Pontotoc Thursday night.

New Albany is on the verge of winning their first division title in 10 years, but on Saturday, its focus was on gaining non-division victories, as they hosted several of the state’s best teams in a tournament at the Sportsplex.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the day with a 4-0 win over Alcorn Central that saw Sheneka Cullins post a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including an RBI single in the fifth inning. Mallory Beaty and Jalana Cameron also had multiple hits, while the Lady Bears were held to four hits.

  • Lady Urchin sweep

A strong defensive effort was all East Union needed, picking up four, one-run wins to sweep their slate in the Union County Tournament, winning their second title in three years.

“We won every game by one run, so what does that tell you?” Lady Urchin coach Josh Blythe said. “I’m proud of the kids; we made big plays, fought through several errors. We didn’t play great, but we just did enough to get it done.”

  • Bulldogs bounce back with shutout of Amory

Bouncing back from a tough loss was the goal for New Albany this week, and using a consistent offensive performance, the ‘Dawgs improved to 3-1 after their 27-0 shutout of Amory on Friday.

“You hate to lose,” NAHS coach Ron Price said of last week’s loss to Pontotoc, “but it that’s what it takes to get this team’s attention and move this team forward, I’m just proud of the way we responded tonight.”

  • Bulldogs set to host Amory

Amory is a well-known powerhouse in football, and the Bulldogs are looking to return to the win column, hosting the Panthers Friday night.
