New Albany Bulldogs

 New county champions were crowned in tight races at East Union on Saturday, as Myrtle girls and New Albany boys took home top honors.

The state’s top ranked team stands in New Albany’s way in its quest for a second consecutive division  title. There is also revenge on the minds of those Bulldogs who returned after last season’s playoff loss to Lafayette. All of this combines to make one of the biggest match-ups of the week.

Last season, New Albany entered Ecru with a senior laden team and an undfeated record. With the roles reversed this year, the Bulldogs hope to play the spoiler role and even their home record, hosting North Pontotoc on Friday.
“Their offense is their strong point, and they play solid defense as well,” NAHS coach Ron Price said. “With it being about seven miles to Ecru, this has turned into a good rivalry between the schools the last three years, and to top it off, it’s a division game.”

Another new face stepped up when the Bulldogs were in need of a big play, and it was the late interception by Brady Barnes that helped New Albany pick up their division-opening win at Senatobia, 13-12, Friday night.
