  • Bulldogs name 15 to All-Division

    Fifteen Bulldogs were named to the Region 2-4A All-Division team, led by seven seniors, six of which were named to the first team.

  • Second half comeback gives Bulldogs win

     Some halftime adjustments made the difference for the Bulldogs on Tuesday, as they overcame a first half deficit to defeat Ripley at home, 68-58.

    The Tigers came out hitting five three-pointers in the first quarter, three from Deion Palmer, giving Ripley a 22-10 lead after the first quarter.

    Behind eight second quarter points from Daniel Drummond, New Albany cut the Tigers’ lead to four, 32-28, at the half and opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run to take the lead.

  • Bulldogs return to winning side, defeating Pontotoc

    New Albany bounced back from a two-game skid over the holidays, defeating Pontotoc, 68-49, on Tuesday.

  • Renasant Bank Ladies Challenge

    Turnovers almost came back to haunt New Albany, but with a big game from Jazmine Spears, the Lady Bulldogs held on for a 43-36 win over Itawamba on Thursday.

  • New Albany approves athletic changes

    New Albany High School will see some changes to its athletic program beginning in fall 2012.
    The addition of volleyball and bowling and the phasing out of slow pitch softball were approved by the New Albany School District at its December board meeting.
    “We’ve had several kids who have shown interest in both bowling and volleyball, and there’s a lot excitement surrounding these sports,” Shane Sanderson, New Albany’s athletic director, said.

  • Kingsley leads New Albany over North Pontotoc

    Moses Kingsley had a triple-double for the Bulldogs, who opened division play with an 82-64 win over North Pontotoc on Friday.
    The junior, along with Eric Chaney, scored 20 points, but added 16 rebounds and 10 blocks for the ‘Dawgs (7-5, 1-0).
    Daniel Drummond added a double-double for New Albany, scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds.
    The Bulldogs will have the next week off before playing in the Biloxi Classic next Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 27-28.

  • Fernandez scores winner for New Albany

    The Bulldogs have achieved success so far this season, and coach Edgar Capaning hopes to see that continue as his team goes further in division play.

    A couple of weeks ago, I decided to issue a friendly challenge to the New Albany and Union County schools to see who has the most school spirit. After two weeks and great competition, I’m pleased to announce the winning school in the inaugural Gazette Student Section Challenge.

  • Berry helps Bulldogs in road win at Myrtle

     There is rarely a dull moment when an in-county match-up takes place in basketball, and New Albany and Myrtle was no exception on Friday.

    In a close game late in the fourth, Devonte Berry and the Bulldogs improved to 6-5 on the season after the senior posted nine fourth quarter points, giving the ‘Dawgs the 81-76 win.

  • NAHS picks up road wins

    John Stroud’s young squad is still trying to find its way. Currently at 4-3, the Lady Bulldogs overcame an early nine-point deficit, defeating Ingomar, 55-39, on Tuesday.
