     New Albany had its chance Saturday night against Pearl; it was just the missed opportunities and the three-point shooting of the Pirates that made the difference in the 65-58 loss.

    A pair of area soccer standouts have signed national letters of intent to play for the Itawamba Community College programs next season.
    The Lady Indians signed New Albany midfielder Randi Stevens while the Indians picked up goalkeeper Will Pearson of Pontotoc.

  • NA soccer beats North Pontotoc on the road

    New Albany soccer picked up big division wins over North Pontotoc on Saturday, working toward its goal of playoff appearances for both boys and girls.
    The Lady Bulldogs clinched a playoff berth with its 2-0 win over the Lady Vikings. After being in a deadlock at the half, 0-0, New Albany came out with two goals, one by Emily Baldridge, assisted by Kristen Olson and Olson scored the second goal, unassisted, on a corner kick.

  • Bulldogs, Lady Hawks claim UCT championships

     For two players, their senior year at the Union County tournament was about redemption.

    On the girls’ side, Aspriona Gilbert and Myrtle snapped a three-year losing streak to New Albany to claim its first title since 2008. The UCT has become accustomed to this match-up, and the 58-36 win improved the Lady Hawks’ perfect record to 21-0.

    “I feel like I did back when we finally beat them after a while,” Gilbert said. “It feels real good.”

  • Union County Tournament: Day Two

     It was the lower seeded teams advancing to the championship on the boys’ side, and for the second time in three years, the title game of the Union County Tournament will feature the Falcons and Bulldogs.

    Denzel Siddell scored a game-high 35 to lead Ingomar in an upset of top seeded Myrtle, 83-74, a game head coach Norris Ashley said was one of his team’s best this season.

  • Union County Tournament: Day One

     The three-time defending champs had a tough start on its quest for a fourth consecutive title. Led by 41 points by Jazmine Spears, New Albany pulled out a 64-52 win over West Union to open the 2012 Union County Tournament on Thursday.

    Spears scored 12 first quarter points, helping the Lady Bulldogs to a 17-8 lead, but West Union stayed within striking distance with 11 first half points from Samantha Bridges.

  • Bulldogs name 15 to All-Division

    Fifteen Bulldogs were named to the Region 2-4A All-Division team, led by seven seniors, six of which were named to the first team.

  • Second half comeback gives Bulldogs win

     Some halftime adjustments made the difference for the Bulldogs on Tuesday, as they overcame a first half deficit to defeat Ripley at home, 68-58.

    The Tigers came out hitting five three-pointers in the first quarter, three from Deion Palmer, giving Ripley a 22-10 lead after the first quarter.

    Behind eight second quarter points from Daniel Drummond, New Albany cut the Tigers’ lead to four, 32-28, at the half and opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run to take the lead.

  • Bulldogs return to winning side, defeating Pontotoc

    New Albany bounced back from a two-game skid over the holidays, defeating Pontotoc, 68-49, on Tuesday.

  • Renasant Bank Ladies Challenge

    Turnovers almost came back to haunt New Albany, but with a big game from Jazmine Spears, the Lady Bulldogs held on for a 43-36 win over Itawamba on Thursday.
