  • East Union wins Union Co. baseball championship

    Cody Dillard has pitched in many big games for East Union and showed poise in the Urchins’ final game of the Union County Tournament. After striking out seven in a loss to Saltillo last week, the junior left-hander came out on Friday silencing the New Albany bats en route to the Urchins’ 6-5 win, capturing the 2012 Union County Tournament title.

  • County standouts earn MAC all-star honors

    A quartet of basketball standouts will represent New Albany and Union County in this year’s Mississippi Association of Coaches all-star games.

  • Former NFL star visits New Albany

     Students at New Albany Elementary School were treated to a special guest on Wednesday as part of the Read Across America program.

    Former Ole Miss and New Orleans Saints running back, Deuce McAllister, spoke with kids at the school, emphasizing the importance of getting an education as well as staying active and healthy.

  • Baseball 'Dawgs open with two wins

    Bulldogs’ baseball hosted area teams over the weekend for the New Albany Classic, which saw the home team earn two wins agaisnt Bruce and Tupelo Christian Prepatory School.

  • Greenwood ends Bulldogs' season at north half

     The Bulldogs’ exit from the postseason came on Thursday at the hands of Greenwood, 51-44. Having problems getting in sync on offense, New Albany scored less than 50 points for only the fourth time this season, and were held to 19 pointsat the half.

    “We were out of sync, and they had a good game plan against us,” coach Brad Gray said. “They spread us out, tried to get Moses away from the basket and were very patient on offense. When we were on offense, we didn’t attack well enough, were lacked and didn’t execute.”

  • Bulldogs capture division championship

     For the third consecutive year, the Bulldogs finish division play as tournament champions, but it did not come easily in the 2-4A boys title game on Friday.

    Despite leading for a majority of the game, the Bulldogs had to go to overtime to top Rosa Fort, 79-72.

  • Urchins, Bulldogs advance to division championships

     The passion and intensity that helped the Urchins earlier this season was seen once more on Thursday, with East Union defeating Hamilton, 73-66, to advance to Friday’s championship game in the Region 1-2A tournament.

    “They played with a lot of heart, and they just didn’t quit tonight,” coach Tim McDonald said. ‘We had a stretch during the season, where we got down and it was hard to bail out of it, but tonight, we kept our composure, stayed with our game plan for four quarters, and it paid off.”

  • Parker's return helps Lady Bulldogs

    On Jan. 6, the Lady Bulldogs suffered a difficult defeat to Rosa Fort, falling to 0-2 in division play. The events following that game, however, became the story.
    Freshman guard Kayla Parker passed out following the 62-61 loss and began having seizures in the trainer’s room at Memorial Gym. After tests at the hospital and some time off the court, Parker has returned, playing a significant part in New Albany’s last two wins over Senatobia and Tupelo.

  • New Albany's Alef signs with Northeast baseball

    Northeast Mississippi Community College head baseball coach Kent Farris has announced that the Tigers have signed Riley Alef, a catcher from New Albany for the 2012-13 season.

  • Lady Bulldogs fall to Germantown

     This time two years ago, Summer Sanderson had never set foot on the soccer field, but on Saturday, she led the Lady Bulldogs in the biggest game in school history, hosting Germantown in the second round of 4A playoffs.

    “Summer is a refreshing addition to our team. This is only her second season, and prior to that, she had never been to a soccer game,” NAHS coach Les Huntington said. “She fought hard, and she has worked toward improving her skills since day one. She’s come a long way.
