New Albany Bulldogs

The turnout for volleyball at New Albany High on Tuesday far exceeded the expectations of many, as 52 girls showed up to learn fundamentals and are working toward being a part of the inaugural team next fall.

In the five years since the sport was established, New Albany girls golf has remained consistent in its efforts, advancing to state each year as the second seed from the division tournament. This season, the Lady Bulldogs achieved a great accomplishment, taking the division title last week.

 New Albany has filled two coaching vacancies, hiring coaches for the two sports the school will add next fall.

Wayne Dye and Lashay Ashford were recently approved by the school district, filling spots for bowling and volleyball. For Dye, the addition of bowling in the New Albany schools has been a long time coming.

 The Bulldogs plated an early run but were unable to pull out a win over Tupelo on Saturday, falling 5-1.

Mason Maxey’s triple preceded New Albany’s lone run, as he scored later on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs went through three pitchers, as Tupelo answered scoring four in the third and plating its final run in the fifth.
