  • New Albany meets new soccer coach

    Making it to the next level and competing for a state championship are the primary goals for New Albany soccer. Helping to achieve that is new head coach Caryl Vogel, who will replace Les Huntington and Edgar Capaning, working with both the boys’ and girls’ programs.

    Amid hightened interest in recruiting last season, former New Albany power forward Moses Kingsley will transfer to a prepatory school in West Virginia.

  • Alef earns Offensive MVP honors in Pearl

    New Albany’s Riley Alef had a two-hit performance, helping the North team to a 12-11 win over the South in the Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star game last Saturday in Pearl.
    The former Bulldog drove in two runs and had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, earning him Offensive Player of the Game honors.
    The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the North, who last won in the large division classification in 2006.
    The South team went ahead early, 7-0 and at one point led 11-4 going into the seventh inning.

  • Beast for the East

    It was the last high school outing for Aspriona Gilbert, and she made the most of it, breaking six records in the Northeast Mississippi Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game last Saturday in Fulton.

  • Bulldogs drop two games at Oxford

    New Albany opened its summer slate with a double header at Oxford on Tuesday.
    The Chargers took a 9-2 win in the first game, posting six runs in the fifth off only one hit and three Bulldog errors.
    New Albany got on the board in the second inning, bringing in a run off of a sacrifice fly by Dalton Hall. Earlier in the inning, Grant Hogue reached on a walk and Hunter McCreight hit the first of his two singles. Both runners advanced on a passed ball, being placed in  scoring position leading up to Hall’s sac fly.

  • Area athletes to play in NEMBCA all-star games

    Itawamba Community College will be the host site of the 2012 Robertson’s Sportswear Northeast Mississippi Basketball Coaches Association (NEMBCA) All-Star Weekend as the area’s top basketball players will converge on the Davis Event Center Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2.

  • Hall named Class 4A Co-Player of the Year

    Nine area athletes completed the 2012 baseball season earning All-State honors, voted on by the state coaches and announced last week.

  • New Albany's Smith signs with BMC baseball

    Corey Smith, who led Northeast Mississippi Community College in batting the past two seasons, has signed a baseball scholarship with Blue Mountain College.
    Smith, a designated hitter and third baseman from New Albany, hit .328 in his two years with the Tigers, including 20 doubles and 68 runs batted in. He had an on base percentage of .424 and scored 39 runs.

  • Hall, Maxey commit to NEMCC baseball

    Easton Hall and Mason Maxey both committed to play for the Northeast Mississippi Community College baseball team on Friday, May 18 at New Albany High School.

  • NAHS honors top senior athletes

    Much of New Albany’s success in athletics this school year came from a talented senior class, boasting several exceptionally talented athletes. Awarded for not only their contributions to their respective programs, but also for their continuing dedication to the school were Summer Sanderson and Riley Alef, 2012 recipients of the Bulldog Award.
