  • Softball begins for area schools

    Slow pitch season officially began last Saturday, and area teams spent the day at a preseason tournament at Myrtle.

  • Bulldogs finish on top against Kossuth

    New Albany had its final preseason test on Friday night, hosting Kossuth in a jamboree game at Kitchens’ Field. Playing two quarters, the Bulldogs finished on top, 7-0, and know now what to work on in preparation for next week’s season opener against Ripley.

  • New Albany set to host Kossuth

    New Albany has one more test before beginning the 2012 regular season against Ripley next week.

    The Bulldogs will host Kossuth on Friday in a jamboree game, hoping for a better outing than last year’s 13-6 loss on the road.

  • Volleyball opens season in Pontotoc

    The volleyball season opened over the weekend, and for the first year program at New Albany, history was made in the team’s second game of the day.

    Facing Ackerman and H.W. Byers in a preseason tournament at Pontotoc, the Lady Bulldogs split on the day, falling to the Indians, 2-0 [25-9, 25-12] and shutting out the Lady Bears only a couple of hours later, 2-0 [25-20, 25-22], giving the school its historic first win.

  • 2012 All-Sports Awards announced

    Local schools were ranked among the best in the state in the annual All-Sports Awards, calculated and released by the Clarion Ledger in Jackson.
    In 2011, New Albany and West Union were named the best in their respective classes, but finished fourth and 10th respectively after the 2011-2012 school year.

  • Spears prepares for final year at New Albany

    By no means was the ending of the 2012 season the way Jazmine Spears wanted to go out. Playing for the defending 4A state champion in New Albany, the junior led in every statistical category for the Lady Bulldogs throughout the season.

  • East Union, New Albany in NEMCABB tournament

    The Urchins and Bulldogs are set for this week’s Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association for Better Baseball championships after taking part in regional action last Thursday and Friday at East Union.
    Both teams opened with losses on Thursday, as New Albany fell 8-3 to Baldwyn, and East Union could not hold on to its early lead, falling 15-3 to Mantachie.
    The Bearcats took an early 2-0 lead on New Albany, which was answered in the bottom of the first, as Jake McDonald plated one run off of his triple, and he later scored on a sacrifice fly out by Grant Hogue.

  • NEMSBCA softball all-stars

    Area softball all-stars met at Tupelo High last Thursday, capping their high school careers in the annual Northeast Mississippi Softball Coaches Association game.
    New Albany’s Amber Mirfield contributed with two hits for the West squad in its 10-4 win over the East in the fast pitch game.
