  • Northeast splits with Northwest-Shoals

    ortheast Mississippi Community College men’s basketball team knew it was in for a physical contest with Northwest-Shoals (Ala.) Community College on Tuesday, December 14.
     
    Both squads battled to the end with Northwest-Shoals escaping Booneville with a 101-100 decision over the Tigers.
     
    Northeast and Northwest-Shoals had already met in the season opener for the Tigers with the Patriots taking an 86-75 decision in a physical game at the Patriot Arena in Phil Campbell, Ala.
     

  • NEMCC to host holiday basketball tournament

    Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Bonner Arnold Coliseum has been the hotbed of basketball in junior college for years.
     
    For two days in December, Bonner Arnold Coliseum transforms into a hotbed for 18 of the best basketball teams in the state as the Kiwanis Club of Booneville hosts it annual basketball tournament at the legendary gymnasium.
     

  • Northeast seeks Hall of Fame nominations

    Northeast officials are actively seeking nominations for the school’s fourth class of inductees for 2011.
     
    Criteria for those eligible include former NEMCC coaches and athletes that have been out of college athletics for at least five years. A maximum of five honorees may be inducted annually.
     

  • Holmes takes two from Northeast in Goodman

    Northeast Mississippi Community College’s men’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker in Goodman Monday, December 6.
     
    Northeast (3-6, 1-1 in North Division) saw the host Bulldogs pull out an 80-76 double overtime win as the Tigers squared their division record at 1-1.
     
    Coming into the game, Northeast staked claim to the lead in the North Division along with Coahoma and East Mississippi after knocking off Northwest Mississippi in the Tigers division opener on December 2.
     

  • Northeast schedules football reunion

    Northeast Mississippi Community College’s all-time leader in football coaching victories is calling one last audible.
     
    Former Northeast athletic director and football coach W.B. ‘Bill’ Ward wants to pull together a reunion during Homecoming 2011 that includes all of the football teams from 1968-1982.
     

  • Ford named NEMCC Dean of Students

    Northeast Mississippi Community College athletic director/head women’s basketball coach Ricky Ford has been named Dean of Students at the school effective January 1, 2011.
     
    According to Northeast president Dr. Johnny L. Allen, Ford will retain his duties as athletic director and head women’s basketball coach until the transition to a traditional deanship is made.  Ford replaces Kenneth Pounders who is set to retire from Northeast at the end of this month.
     

  • Northeast opens division with clean sweep of Northwest

    Northeast Mississippi Community College’s men and women’s basketball teams opened North Division play on a positive note with a sweep of rival Northwest Mississippi on Thursday, Dec. 2 at Bonner Arnold Coliseum in Booneville.

    Ricky Ford’s Lady Tigers improved to 3-4 on the year but more importantly picked up their first division win of the year after knocking off the Lady Rangers 80-70.

  • Northeast baseball offers pair of winter clinics

    Northeast Mississippi Community College’s baseball program is reminding area athletes that its winter baseball clinics are a week away and athletes that register for both sessions will see substantial savings in their camp fees.

    Northeast will hold a pair of winter baseball camps for athletes inside the college’s five-county district on Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12.
     
    Athletes from Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties are encouraged to participate and register early for the camps.
     

  • North wins 2010 All-Star Classic at Tiger Stadium

    Mississippi’s annual junior college all-star football classic went
    along historical lines in the thirty-seventh showing at Tiger Stadium
    in Booneville Saturday, December 4.

    With the series tied 17-17-2, both sides squared off for the first 56
    minutes before the North was able to break free and capture the lead
    in the series with a 16-0 win.

    After Brandon Lawrence (Northwest) gave the North a 7-0 lead with

  • NEMCC to host annuall all-star game

    Northeast Mississippi Community College becomes the hotbed of football activity on Saturday, December 4 as the college hosts the thirty-seventh annual Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star Football Classic.
     
    Thirteen of the Magnolia State’s 14 football playing schools are scheduled to participate in the annual classic.
     
    MACJC State Champion Mississippi Gulf Coast will sit out this year due to honoring its commitment as the state’s representative in the Mississippi Bowl on Dec. 5 in Biloxi.
