    A few weekends ago Twanda Black enjoyed having her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Donna Bryant from Fredericksburg, Texas to visit in her home.  Also visiting Twanda was her niece Katie Bryant, from San Marcus, Texas.

  • At the time of this writing, today is Tuesday, Sept. 28. September is almost gone. Where has this year gone?  Have we just stood still and let it pass?  Well I hope not, but it does seem that the years pass swiftly now a days.  Even the younger generation are expressing themselves to that degree.

  • The Mississippi Humanities Council and the Itawamba Community College Honors Council will present “Mississippi Writers: Alive and Well” at 6 p.m., Oct. 21.

    Blue Mountain College Learning Center Director Anna Quinn of New Albany will present the event in the Crubaugh Technical Education seminar room at the ICC Fulton campus.

  • The New Albany Main Street Association sponsored the “Main Street Window Display” contest from September 1 – 21.   

    Congratulations to “Merle Norman,” the winner of the 2010 Main Street Window Display Contest.  

  • Trick or Treat Downtown will take place again from 6-8 p.m. on October 28, 2010 in downtown New Albany. 

    A costume contest will be held during this time. The age categories are as follows: Birth to 2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10.

  • One eighth grader recently learned about leadership and what roles leadership play in building the United States when he visited Washington, D. C. with other students.

  • This September marks the five-year anniversary of the William Faulkner Literary Garden. The garden, which is located at the Union County Heritage Museum, was built next door to William Faulkner’s birthplace. 

  • Horse-drawn carriages, gravel roads, and the advent of the American road system were the topics of conversation and discussion at last week’s Museum Moments program.

  • Right outside of New Albany off of Highway 15 North is a homestead and estate nestled on 150 acres of rolling hills, a lake, a garden, and an area complete with naturalistic scenery. This place is known as the Concord Inn and is the area’s most recent addition to New Albany and Union County accommodations.

  • Those living in the Martintown community may have noticed a new restaurant in town. It may just look like an aluminum building, but Top Quality Meats and Diner cooks a variety of home cooked meals for customers every weekend.

  • An award-winning local writer will be featured at this month’s ‘Luncheon with Books,’ held at the Union County Library.

  • Patrons interested in enjoying a plethora of visual, literary, and performing arts can get ready to enjoy the annual Tallahatchie RiverFest in downtown New Albany.

    RiverFest will be taking place Sept. 23-25, 2010 on the Union County Courthouse lawn and in surrounding locations, depending on the day and time of the event.
