Urchins fall in game one of 2A state championship

There’s no panic in the dugout for the Urchins. Despite a 12-1 setback to Taylorsville in the first game of the 2A state championship on Wednesday, East Union has confidence heading into Friday’s game two with both of its top pitchers rested and ready to go.

Young arms saw action for the Urchins on Wednesday, with freshman Witt Roaton getting the nod for the start. Appearing in only his fifth game this season, Roaton threw almost six complete innings, allowing seven runs with five strikeouts.

New Albany tennis repeats as 4A state tennis champs

There were more than enough setbacks before New Albany could finally hit the courts in defense of its state title in 4A tennis. Recent rains reeked havoc on the postseason, but on Tuesday, almost two weeks after the originally scheduled state title match against St. Stanislaus, the Bulldogs took care of business, defeating the Rock-a-Chaws five games to one, winning its second consecutive state title; the third title in four years.

Mayor gets third term, Robertson wins chief

Mayor Tim Kent won a third four-year term as New Albany mayor Tuesday, turning back a challenge from Bill Robertson.

Urchins win first game of north half

East Union is one game away from making it to Pearl after taking a 1-0 series lead against Baldwyn on Thursday.

The Urchins jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first, as Trey Barkley led off with a triple. Loading the bases for Tray Davis, the first run was brought in on a sac fly. Executing good base running, Dustin Pratt stole home to put East up 2-0.

Baldwyn got one of the runs back in the top of the second on an RBI single from Conner McKay.

Liquor rules a formality

We think the New Albany Board of Alderman acted responsibly in approving unanimously the ordinance to make the sale of wine and liquor legal in the city beginning June 6.

The sale of liquors and wine of more than five percent of alcohol by weight will become legal in the city of New Albany on June 6.

This Saturday is New Albany’s annual foray into bluegrass and fiddlin’ music as the community hosts the Down From the Hills Heritage Music and Mississippi Blue Grass Championships.

4th grade too tough for me?

May is my dumbest month. Oh, I don’t feel too smart most months. April isn’t good, but May is the worst. By the middle of the month, I’m wondering how I ever got out of elementary school.
