Today's Opinions

  • Sportsplex expansion

The artist’s rendering of the plan for expansion of the New Albany Sportsplex shows an impressive project that will significantly upgrade the city’s recreational facilities.

Sam Creekmore of Creekmore Landscaping showed the plans and an accompanying video depiction of the project at the meeting of the Board of Aldermen last week.

  • Thoughts on anniversary

My sister, Donna, likes my wife, Jenny, a lot, and she reminds me regularly how fortunate I am to have found her.

Her conversations with Jenny go a little differently: She can’t understand why a good-looking, fun-to-be-with person like Jenny would have married her brother.

  • Reducing flood zone

The decision by the New Albany Board of Aldermen to have an engineering firm try to develop information to reduce the area designated as flood plain is a good one.

  • The South is rising

Chancellor Dan Jones of the University of Mississippi didn’t have to get involved in controversy by banning the sports medley “From Dixie With Love” at university football games.

  • Moving through life

Being in the newspaper business is a little like being in the Army – two things I know something about.

  • New Haven special need

Providing help to adults with special needs is the business of the New Haven Center for Special Needs Adults.

But the school now has its own special need and is looking to the community to provide the money for it. The school needs a 28-passenger handicapped-accessible bus because its client base is now 22 people ages 20 to 55.

  • Planning our future

The proposed revision to New Albany’s comprehensive plan was unveiled at Monday night’s meeting of the Board of Aldermen and it’s a lot to take in.

We’ve only begun studying the document. It will be available in the next few days online at ucda-newalbany.com.

  • Ruining Halloween

My wife says we’ve almost ruined Halloween. It’s one of her favorite holidays. She drags out her string of Halloween pumpkin lights, her motion-activated plastic pumpkin that makes scary sounds and the big gray bat that hangs in the foyer.
